Number Of Ingredients 7

1 onion, chopped
2 celery stalks, sliced
2 carrots, sliced
4 c chicken broth, low salt
2 c ham, cubed
1 c peas, frozen
2 Tbsp cornstarch

Steps:

  • 1. In a dutch oven, combine onion, celery, carrots, broth, ham and seasonings then cover and cook over med-high heat for 20 minutes or until carrots are almost tender, then stir in the peas.
  • 2. Mix 1/2 cup water and then corn starch and add to the stew.
  • 3. Stir constantly until stew thickens... and if desired garnish with celery

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham. For the best flavor, use a bone-in ham steak or a ham hock. These cuts of ham have more flavor than boneless ham.
  • Brown the ham before stewing. Browning the ham adds flavor and helps to create a rich, brown gravy.
  • Use a variety of vegetables. This will give your stew more flavor and texture. Some good choices include potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, and peas.
  • Add some herbs and spices. This will help to enhance the flavor of the stew. Some good choices include thyme, rosemary, sage, and black pepper.
  • Simmer the stew for at least 1 hour. This will allow the flavors to meld and the meat to become tender.
  • Serve the stew with a side of crusty bread or mashed potatoes. This will help to soak up the delicious gravy.

Conclusion:

Chunky ham stew is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you are looking for a comforting and satisfying meal, give this chunky ham stew a try.
