CINNAMON APPLE SYRUP FROM PEEL

Cinnamon Apple Syrup from Peel image

This is a yummy way to use up apple peels. I like to cook apples during the fall to freeze for a winter side dish. I always hated throwing away the peelings. I modified a recipe that I found online until I got a consistancy and flavor that I am happy with. I enjoy using tart apples like Cortland or Winesap. My whole family loves this syrup. It is especially tasty when poured over Cinnamon Pecan Pancakes :) I love to have this simmering on the stove, it makes the house smell wonderful!

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best flavor.
  • Peel and core the apples: This will help the syrup to thicken and prevent the apples from becoming mushy.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot: This will help to prevent the syrup from burning.
  • Cook the syrup over low heat: This will help to prevent the syrup from caramelizing and becoming too thick.
  • Stir the syrup frequently: This will help to prevent the syrup from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
