Number Of Ingredients 16

2 tablespoons canola oil
1 boneless turkey breast
2 tablespoons butter
1 (10 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
1 onion, finely chopped
1 red jalapeno pepper, minced
1 green jalapeno pepper, minced
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
½ cup whole wheat pastry flour
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup lard, chilled and cut into small pieces
9 tablespoons iced water, or more as needed
1 cup grated farmer's cheese
3 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon baking powder

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a saute pan over medium heat. Cook turkey breast, flipping every few minutes, until nicely browned on the outside and no longer pink in the center, about 15 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Melt butter in a clean saute pan over medium heat. Add mushrooms, onion, and jalapeno peppers. Cook until onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Combine 1 cup all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, and salt in a bowl. Cut in the lard until mixture is crumbly. Add iced water, a spoonful at time, stirring with a fork until dough comes together in a ball.
  • Roll dough out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into 9-inch circle; transfer to a pie plate.
  • Bake crust in the preheated oven until edges are lightly browned, about 10 minutes.
  • Spread onion-mushroom mixture over the bottom of the crust. Layer farmer's cheese on top. Cut turkey breast into small chunks and scatter over the cheese.
  • Whisk remaining 1/2 cup all-purpose flour with eggs, milk, and baking powder until smooth. Pour over the filling.
  • Bake until lightly browned on top and crust bounces back when lightly touched, 35 to 40 minutes.

Yield 1 Quiche

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 eggs
1 cup Mayo
2T Flour
1 bag of Steamed/ Chopped Spinach
1 ½ Cups of grated Swiss cheese
1 ½ Cups of diced Ham
2 tsp chopped garlic
1 deep dish pie shell

Steps:

  • Quiche Recipe Mix together with a fork in one bowl: 6 eggs 1 cup Mayo 2T Flour Add: 1 bag of Steamed/ Chopped Spinach 1 ½ Cups of grated Swiss cheese 1 ½ Cups of diced Ham 2 tsp chopped garlic I use Trader Joes frozen pie crusts. Follow the instructions for thawing or if you don't have a pie pan use Sara Lee's frozen deep dish pie shell and thaw a bit. I used Sara Lees for years. Poke the deep dish pie shell with a fork to keep it from rising up out of the pan when cooking. Pour the ingredients into the uncooked pie shell. Bake: 375 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes (test with a tooth pick)

Tips:

  • Use a good quality puff pastry. This will make a big difference in the final product. If you can, find a puff pastry that is made with butter, not margarine.
  • Don't overwork the dough. When you are rolling out the puff pastry, be careful not to overwork it. This will make it tough.
  • Blind bake the pastry before filling it. This will help to prevent the pastry from becoming soggy.
  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. This will make your quiche taste the best.
  • Don't overcook the quiche. The quiche is done when the center is just set. If you overcook it, the quiche will be dry and tough.

Conclusion:

A Christmas quiche is a delicious and festive dish that is perfect for a holiday brunch or dinner. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a little planning, you can make a Christmas quiche that will impress your family and friends.
