CHRISTMAS MORNING CROCK POT BREAKFAST

Christmas Morning Crock Pot Breakfast image

Slow cookers can make quick work of breakfast. What could be better than waking up to the fresh aroma of a hearty morning meal wafting through the house? With the aid of the Crock pot, it's easy to give the entire family a hot breakfast, regardless of when they drag themselves out of bed. This recipe has been passed down to me from friends. It is a Christmas morning tradition in our household. It's great to throw it together the night before and not have to worry about cooking the next morning. We typically spoon it into tortillas and top with salsa for breakfast tacos. Very forgiving recipe, you can do just about anything to it. UPDATE: I've noticed some people not having luck with this, so I wanted to add a few things -- make SURE you use DICED hash browns, little squares, not the shredded stuff. Also, I've only ever made this in an oval crock with a removal ceramic interior. You may want to check it after 8 hours if your crock runs hot.

CHRISTMAS MORNING CROCK-POT BREAKFAST RECIPE - (4.5/5)

Provided by รก-11135

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 bag 26 oz. frozen hash browns
12 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon ground mustard
1 16 oz. roll sausage
maple, sage or regular sausage.
Salt and pepper
16 oz. bag shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Spray crock pot and evenly spread hash browns at the bottom. 2. Crack 12 eggs in a large bowl. 3. Mix well (and slowly) using a whisk. 4. Add the milk. 5. Go ahead and sprinkle in the ground mustard. This might sound like a weird ingredient, but I've come to love (and use) this in most of my recipes. 6. Add plenty of salt.... ...and lots of fresh pepper. Mix well and set aside. 7. Cook the sausage on high heat, drain and set aside. 8. Add sausage on top of hash browns. 9. Is this enough cheese? Maybe? Probably. Throw the whole big bag in there. 10. Mix it up well. Or good, depending on where you're from. 11. Pour the egg mixture over everything in the crock pot. Using a wood spoon, even everything out so it's spread evenly. 12. Turn the crock pot on low for 6-8 hours. Some fun variations of this recipe. Before cooking (during prep) you can add: chunks of sourdough bread diced chiles salsa diced green onions

Tips:

  • Prep ahead: To save time on Christmas morning, prep as much as you can the night before. This includes chopping vegetables, measuring ingredients, and assembling the casserole.
  • Use a slow cooker liner: This will make cleanup a breeze. Simply lift the liner out of the slow cooker and discard it.
  • Don't overfill the slow cooker: Leave at least 1 inch of headspace at the top to allow the food to cook evenly.
  • Cook on low for 6-8 hours: This will give the flavors time to meld and the meat to become tender.
  • Serve with your favorite toppings: Some popular options include shredded cheese, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole.

Conclusion:

A Christmas morning crock pot breakfast is a delicious and easy way to start your holiday. With a little planning ahead, you can have a hot and hearty meal ready to enjoy without any fuss. So gather your family and friends around the table and enjoy a stress-free Christmas morning breakfast.
