Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (18 ounces) white or french vanilla cake mix
+ eggs, oil and water called for on cake mix
1 (3 ounce) box strawberry, raspberry or cherry jello
1 (3 ounce) box lime jello
2 cups boiling water
1 (16 ounce) container whipped topping or Cool Whip frosting
Holiday sprinkles

Steps:

  • Prepare and bake cake according to package directions for a 2 layer round cake. Place cooled cake layers, top-sides up, in clean 8 or 9-inch round pans; pierce with large fork at 1/2-inch intervals. In separate bowls, add 1 cup boiling water to each flavor dry gelatin mix. Stir 2 minutes or until completely dissolved. Slowly pour 3/4 of the red gelatin mixture over 1 cake round and 3/4 of the lime gelatin over second cake layer. When pouring the Jell-O over the cake layers it will look like the whole cake is saturated with color, but the gelatin mixture will only enter the holes that you made with the fork. Discard the remaining jello or save for another purpose. Frost cake layers with whipped topping or Cool Whip frosting. Add sprinkles. Refrigerate cake at least 1 hour before serving.

CHRISTMAS JELLO CAKE

Christmas Jello Cake image

I used to make this every year at Christmas time when I was a kid. It was a family favourite and when I had children of my own it became my children's go to dessert. Who doesn't like jello?

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 pkg jello powder mix - any red flavour
1 pkg jello powder mix - lime flavour
2 box graham crackers

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare jello in seperate bowls according to package directions and let partially set.
  • 2. Line a 9X13 pan (preferably glass or plastic - do not use a metal pan or it will discolour the graham crackers) with a layer of the crackers trimming to fit snuggly together into all corners.
  • 3. Gently pour one of the flavours of partially set jello onto the bottom layer of crackers. Place a second layer of crackers on top and then add the other flavour. Sprinkle crushed graham crackers on the top and refrigerate until completely set.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Gelatin: For a firm and stable jello cake, use unflavored gelatin powder or sheets. Avoid using flavored gelatin as it may overpower the other flavors in the cake.
  • Prepare the Jello Correctly: Follow the package instructions for preparing the jello. Make sure to use the correct amount of water or milk, as too much or too little liquid can affect the texture of the cake.
  • Chill the Jello Thoroughly: Before assembling the cake, chill the jello until it is firm. This will help prevent it from melting or becoming too soft when you add the other layers.
  • Use Fresh Fruit: For the best flavor and texture, use fresh fruit in your jello cake. Avoid using frozen or canned fruit, as they can make the cake watery.
  • Layer the Cake Carefully: When assembling the cake, be careful not to overmix the layers. Gently fold the whipped cream or yogurt into the jello, and spread the fruit evenly between the layers.
  • Chill the Cake Thoroughly: After assembling the cake, chill it for at least 4 hours, or overnight, before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the cake to set properly.
