Christmas ham w/ fresh cranberry-orange glaze image

I remember my dad used to make a ham w/ cranberries and juices and spices but couldn't remember the exact ingredients so I played around w/ them and , thankfully, lol, this Christmas every single person ate almost every thing from the pan. Leaving very little behind...so, so good!

Time 2h50m

Number Of Ingredients 9

10 lb spiral sliced ham, bone-in
3 c fresh cranberries or frozen and thawed
4 Tbsp honey, preferably clove honey
1/3 c orange juice, i used tropicana
2-1/2 Tbsp orange zest
1/4 tsp crushed cloves
1/2 c packed, light brown sugar
1 can(s) pineapple slices, (optional)
1-1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 275.Place ham, flat side down in roasting pan. Cover lightly w/ foil and bake 1-1/2 hours.
  • 2. In medium sized pot, over medium heat, combine cranberries, honey, orange juice, orange zest, cloves and cinnamon. Cook on medium, stirring occasionally until cranberries start to sound like they're "popping."
  • 3. Cover pot, remove from heat and let cool. Remove ham from oven. Increase oven heat to 425. Make sure glaze is cool enough to handle w/ hands, ( this is the easiest way to do this, ) using your hands, spread the glaze all over the ham, including top and sides. If using the pineapple slices, place them on top of ham. Sprinkle the brown sugar all over ham. Place ham back in oven and cook, uncovered for another 15-20 minutes or until the brown sugar has melted and formed a nice crust. Take the ham out of oven and let sit for 10 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: For the best flavor, choose a bone-in ham that is fully cooked and smoked. This will ensure that the ham is juicy and flavorful.
  • Score the ham: Scoring the ham helps the glaze penetrate the meat and creates a crispy crust.
  • Make the glaze ahead of time: The glaze can be made up to 2 days in advance. This will allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Don't overcook the ham: Overcooked ham is dry and tough. Cook the ham according to the package directions or use a meat thermometer to ensure that the internal temperature reaches 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the ham rest before serving: Let the ham rest for 15-20 minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Conclusion:

This Christmas ham with fresh cranberry-orange glaze is a delicious and festive dish that is perfect for your holiday table. The ham is juicy and flavorful, and the glaze is sweet and tangy. It's sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
