Yield Makes 4 buns, serving 2

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
1 large egg
1/4 cup milk
3 1/2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. In a small bowl stir together 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and cinnamon. Into a large bowl sift together flour, remaining tablespoon granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut butter into small pieces and with your fingertips or a pastry blender blend into flour mixture until mixture resembles coarse meal. In another small bowl whisk together egg and 3 tablespoons milk and add to flour mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Transfer mixture to a lightly floured surface and gently knead, 3 or 4 times, until it forms a dough. Pat dough into a 10- by 6-inch rectangle (about ‚ inch thick). Brush dough with some remaining milk and sprinkle evenly with cinnamon sugar. Beginning with a short side, roll up rectangle to form a 6-inch log and cut crosswise into 4 pieces. Arrange pieces on a baking sheet, cut sides up, with seams touching. Bake buns in middle of oven until pale golden and cooked through, about 18 minutes.
  • In another small bowl stir together confectioners' sugar and water until smooth and drizzle over warm buns.

When I married him, I discovered that my husband's family has the best cinnamon roll recipe! I asked his mom how to make homemade cinnamon rolls, and I've been making them ever since. Serve them with scrambled eggs, and you have a filling breakfast. As a variation, you can replace the filling with a mixture of raisins and pecans. -Shenai Fisher, Topeka, Kansas

Time 3h

Yield 15

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 teaspoon white sugar
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
½ cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
½ cup milk
¼ cup white sugar
¼ cup butter
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, beaten
4 cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup butter
¾ cup brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans, divided
¾ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
¼ cup melted butter

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, dissolve 1 teaspoon sugar and yeast in warm water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes. Warm the milk in a small saucepan until it bubbles, then remove from heat. Mix in 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup butter and salt; stir until melted. Let cool until lukewarm.
  • In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture, milk mixture, eggs and 1 1/2 cup flour; stir well to combine. Stir in the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  • Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 1 hour.
  • While dough is rising, melt 3/4 cup butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in 3/4 cup brown sugar, whisking until smooth. Pour into greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Sprinkle bottom of pan with 1/2 cup pecans; set aside. Melt remaining butter; set aside. Combine remaining 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup pecans, and cinnamon; set aside.
  • Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, roll into an 18x14 inch rectangle. Brush with 2 tablespoons melted butter, leaving 1/2 inch border uncovered; sprinkle with brown sugar cinnamon mixture. Starting at long side, tightly roll up, pinching seam to seal. Brush with remaining 2 tablespoons butter. With serrated knife, cut into 15 pieces; place cut side down, in prepared pan. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in volume. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool in pan for 3 minutes, then invert onto serving platter. Scrape remaining filling from the pan onto the rolls.

CHRISTMAS EVE SHORTCUT CINNAMON BUNS

Christmas Eve Shortcut Cinnamon Buns image

This recipe is very similar to monkey bread. It was very easy to make - we love preparing something the night before and just having to pop it in the oven. (It looked like you worked really hard while my family was still sleeping lol.)

Categories     Other Breakfast

Time 8h25m

Number Of Ingredients 5

20 unbaked frozen dinner rolls
1 c brown sugar
1/4 c instant vanilla pudding mix
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/3 c butter, melted

Steps:

  • 1. Lightly grease a 10-inch bundt cake pan. Place frozen rolls into the pan and sprinkle with brown sugar, the pudding mix and cinnamon. Pour melted butter over the top. If you don't have a bundt pan, you can use a muffin tin, but they turn out better in a bundt pan.
  • 2. Cover with a clean, damp cloth and leave overnight at room temperature to rise.
  • 3. In the morning, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake rolls for 25 minutes, until golden brown. Turn rolls out onto a serving plate and dig in!

Tips:

  • Use fresh yeast for the best results. If using active dry yeast, proof it in warm water with a little sugar before adding it to the dough.
  • Make sure the butter is cold and cut into small pieces before adding it to the dough. This will help create a flaky, tender crust.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, but not tough. Over-kneading will result in a tough, dense bun.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place until it is doubled in size. This will take about 1-2 hours.
  • Roll the dough out into a rectangle and spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly over the surface. Roll the dough up tightly and slice it into individual buns.
  • Place the buns in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake the buns at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  • Serve the buns warm with cream cheese frosting or your favorite glaze.

Conclusion:

These Christmas Eve cinnamon buns are a delicious and festive treat that are perfect for sharing with family and friends. With a few simple tips, you can make these buns at home that are sure to impress. So gather your ingredients and get started today!
