¾ cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ¼ cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
⅓ cup maraschino cherries, chopped
2 ½ cups crushed cornflakes cereal
10 maraschino cherries, quartered

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets.
  • Cream the shortening with the sugar. Blend in the eggs, milk and vanilla.
  • Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in the chopped pecans, chopped dates and 1/3 cup maraschino cherries.
  • Shape teaspoonful sized chunks of dough into balls. Roll each ball in the crushed corn flakes. Place balls on the prepared baking sheets and top each cookie with 1/4 maraschino cherry.
  • Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool completely before storing in airtight containers.

Every time I make these I think of her counter filled with all types of cookies, breads, candy and as I grew up it became our tradition together to bake. She is 80 and is still baking and blessings...

1 c sugar
3/4 c shortening
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
2 1/4 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 c chopped pecans
1 c chopped dates
1/3 c chopped maraschino cherries, well drained
1 1/2 c coarsely crushed corn flakes
15 maraschino cherries, quartered

Steps:

  • 1. In large bowl, combine sugar and shortening; beat well. Add milk, vanilla and eggs; mix well. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Add flour. baking powder, baking soda and salt; mix well. Stir in pecans, dates and 1/3 cup chopped cherries. If necessary, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 15 minutes for easier handling.
  • 2. Heat oven to 375F. Spray cookie sheets with Pam. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into cereal; throughly coat. Shape into balls. Place 2 inches apart on greased sheets. Lightly press maraschino cherry quarter into top of each ball.
  • 3. Bake 375F for 10 to 15 minutes or until light and golden brown.

1 cup sugar
2 eggs

1 unbeaten egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup raisins (seedless)
1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)
1 (4 ounce) jar maraschino cherries
1 -1 1/2 cup crushed corn flakes

Steps:

  • Cream first 2 ingredients then beat in egg.
  • Mix vanilla, lemon peel and milk into the creamed mixture.
