Tips:

  • Use Yukon Gold potatoes for the best results. They hold their shape well and have a creamy texture.
  • Cut the potatoes into uniform-sized pieces so that they cook evenly.
  • Soak the potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes before cooking. This will help to remove excess starch and prevent them from sticking together.
  • Use a large pot or Dutch oven to cook the potatoes. This will give them plenty of room to cook evenly.
  • Bring the potatoes to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until they are tender. This will take about 15-20 minutes.
  • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter, milk, salt, and pepper and mash until smooth.
  • Serve the mashed potatoes immediately, or keep them warm in a slow cooker until ready to serve.
