Tips:

  • To ensure your cake rises evenly, make sure all ingredients are at room temperature before you start baking.
  • Do not overmix the batter, as this can lead to a dense, heavy cake.
  • Use a light hand when folding the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Overmixing can cause gluten to develop which will also result in a tough cake.
  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to a cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
  • To prevent the cake from sticking to the pan, grease and flour the pan thoroughly before pouring in the batter.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven. This will help to ensure that it rises evenly.
  • Do not open the oven door during baking, as this can cause the cake to fall.
  • When the toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean, the cake is done.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting. This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.
