CHOCOLATE MALT PIE
We occasionally indulge in having a chocolate malt for a treat at our favorite hamburger drive-in. I love the taste of malt in ice cream so why not create a chocolate malt cream pie? I added walnuts for crunch, whipped cream and chocolate sauce for indulgence! Now it is a favorite, and I vary it with shaved chocolate on...

Steps:
- 1. Mix flour, sugar, salt, malted milk and cocoa together in sauce pan. Add Milk, cream, butter, and slightly whipped egg yolks to mixture in pan. Cook over medium heat, stirring with a whip tool. When mixture comes to a boil, drop in the 1/2 chocolate bar. Continue to cook for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
- 2. Line the baked pie crust bottom with largely chopped walnut pieces. Slowly pour pie filling over the walnuts into the pie shell. Cool and refrigerate for 4 hours.
- 3. Before serving, top pie with cool whip and drizzle with the chocolate sauce. For variation you can use shaved chocolate instead of the chocolate sauce on top of pie. Enjoy!
CHOCOLATE MALLOW MALT PIE
Steps:
- In top of double boiler, combine marshmallows, chocolate pieces, milk, and salt. Cook over hot water, stirring occassionally, until marshmallows and chocolate are melted. Remove from heat: Cool until slightly thickened. IN smal mixer bowl, combine whipping cream, malted milk powder and vanilla. Beat until very thick. Fold in chocolate marshmallow mixture. Spoon into baked pie shell. Sprinkle chopped pecans around edge of pie. Chill at least 3 hours before serving.
Tips:
- For the perfect pie crust, use a combination of butter and shortening. This will result in a flaky, tender crust.
- Be sure to chill the pie dough before rolling it out. This will help to prevent the dough from shrinking in the oven.
- When blind-baking the pie crust, use pie weights or dried beans to weigh down the parchment paper. This will help to prevent the crust from bubbling up.
- For a smooth and creamy filling, whisk the eggs, sugar, and cornstarch together before adding them to the milk. This will help to prevent the filling from curdling.
- Be sure to cook the filling until it has thickened. This will take about 8-10 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Once the filling has thickened, remove it from the heat and stir in the chocolate chips. This will help to prevent the chocolate chips from melting completely.
- Allow the pie to cool completely before serving. This will help the filling to set and firm up.
Conclusion:
This chocolate malt pie is the perfect dessert for any occasion. It's rich, creamy, and chocolaty, with a flaky, tender crust. Whether you're serving it to family or friends, this pie is sure to be a hit.
