Time 1h30m

Yield about 24 cookies

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature
2/3 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
4 ounces milk chocolate, chopped

Steps:

  • Position racks in the upper and lower thirds of the oven and preheat to 350 degrees F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl. Beat the butter and sugar in a large bowl with a mixer on medium-high speed until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Reduce the mixer speed to medium low; beat in the flour mixture in 2 batches until combined.
  • Transfer the batter to a resealable plastic bag and snip the corner to create a 1/2-inch opening. Pipe the batter into 1/2-by-3-inch strips, about 2 inches apart, on the prepared baking sheets. Bake, switching the pans halfway through, until the cookies are golden around the edges, about 15 minutes. Let cool 5 minutes on the baking sheets, then transfer to racks to cool completely.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment. Put the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring, until smooth. Dip the cookies halfway in the chocolate, letting the excess drip off, then place on the prepared baking sheet. Refrigerate until the chocolate just sets, 10 to 15 minutes.

3/4 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour, plus more, for dusting
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 ounces semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
1 teaspoon canola oil or pure vegetable shortening

  • In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream butter, sugar, and vanilla until combined. On slow speed, beat in flour and salt until combined. Wrap dough in plastic wrap; chill until firm, at least 2 hours, or overnight.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough until 1/16-to-1/8 inch thick. Cut out hearts with a 2-inch heart cookie cutter. Transfer cookies to an ungreased baking sheet; chill for 30 minutes.
  • Heat oven to 300 degrees with a rack in the center. Press the tines of a fork into each cookie to make designs. Bake until just beginning to brown around the edges, about 18 minutes. (Cookies will keep in an airtight container at room temperature for about 5 days.)
  • In the top of a double boiler or in a heatproof bowl set over simmering water, melt the chocolate, stirring occasionally. Stir in the oil. Dip half or one third of each cookie into the chocolate mixture. Transfer cookies to a cooling rack to dry, or place them on a piece of parchment paper in the freezer for 10 minutes. Serve.

CHOCOLATE HEART COOKIES

I found this last year in the "Taste of Home" magazine. They were an instant hit and left everyone craving more. Excellent for Valentines especially, but they are good any time of the year. I dip them in the milk chocolate and drizzle white - though the recipe calls for it the other way, you can chose to reverse the amounts between white and milk chocolate chips according to your taste.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate: The type of chocolate you use will have a big impact on the flavor of your cookies. Look for a chocolate that is rich and flavorful, with a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • Chill the dough before baking: Chilling the dough will help the cookies to hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much in the oven.
  • Bake the cookies until they are just set: Overbaking the cookies will make them dry and crumbly. Bake them until they are just set around the edges, but still soft in the center.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before dipping them in chocolate: This will help to prevent the chocolate from melting and running off the cookies.
  • Use a variety of toppings: You can decorate your chocolate-dipped heart cookies with a variety of toppings, such as sprinkles, chopped nuts, or dried fruit.

Conclusion:

Chocolate-dipped heart cookies are a delicious and festive treat that is perfect for any occasion. They are easy to make and can be decorated in a variety of ways. With a little creativity, you can create chocolate-dipped heart cookies that are sure to impress your friends and family.
