1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup margarine or 1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 large egg
1 cup quick-cooking oats
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

  • Drop by teaspoon onto greased or parchment-lined cookie sheets and bake in preheated 350°F oven for 12 minutes.
  • Allow a few minutes longer if you prefer crisp cookies.

Tips:

  • Use good quality chocolate. The chocolate is the star of these cookies, so don't skimp on quality. Use a chocolate that you enjoy eating on its own.
  • Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the cookies tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dough before baking. Chilling the dough will help the cookies hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much.
  • Bake the cookies at a high temperature. This will help the cookies develop a crispy exterior and a chewy interior.
  • Don't overbake the cookies. Overbaking will make the cookies dry and crumbly. Bake them just until they are set.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before serving. This will allow the flavors to develop and the cookies to firm up.

Conclusion:

These chocolate cowboy cookies are a delicious and easy-to-make treat. They are perfect for any occasion, from a casual get-together to a special holiday gathering. With their rich chocolate flavor and chewy texture, these cookies are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them.
