Tips:

  • To make the cake squares even more decadent, try using a high-quality dark chocolate. You can also add a tablespoon of instant coffee powder to the batter for a mocha flavor.
  • If you don't have any dried cherries on hand, you can substitute another dried fruit, such as raisins, cranberries, or apricots.
  • Be sure to grease and flour the baking pan before adding the batter. This will help the cake squares to come out cleanly.
  • Bake the cake squares until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached. If the toothpick comes out clean, the cake squares are overbaked.
  • Let the cake squares cool completely before frosting them. This will help the frosting to set properly.
  • For a neater appearance, use an offset spatula to spread the frosting on the cake squares.
  • If you want to make the cake squares ahead of time, you can store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze the cake squares for up to 2 months.

These chocolate cherry cake squares are the perfect treat for any occasion. They're rich, decadent, and packed with flavor.
