1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 tablespoon Chinese-style mustard
1/2 teaspoon five spice powder
4 skinned salmon fillets (4 ounce size)

CHINESE FIVE SPICE MARINATED SALMON

Chinese Five Spice Marinated Salmon image

I've developed this recipe to be used with my bamboo steamer. Use your favorite oriental sauce or try my favorite bottled sauce, Iron Chef's Orange- Ginger Sauce. Or try the sauce used in Recipe #376279 Since my steamer has two baskets, I cook the fish in the bottom basket, and veggies in the top. Serve over rice; makes for a great one pot dinner! Time indicated does not include marinading time! NOTE: Cooking Sherry or Gin can be substituted for the rice wine.

Tips:

  • Choose the right salmon fillet: Look for a thick, firm fillet with vibrant pink or orange flesh. Avoid fillets with any brown or gray spots, as these may indicate spoilage.
  • Marinate the salmon: Marinating the salmon in a mixture of Chinese five-spice powder, soy sauce, honey, and sesame oil helps to infuse it with flavor and keep it moist during grilling.
  • Cook the salmon over medium heat: Cooking the salmon over medium heat helps to prevent it from overcooking and drying out. Aim for an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) for medium-rare salmon.
  • Baste the salmon with the marinade: Basting the salmon with the marinade while it cooks helps to keep it moist and flavorful. You can also add a glaze made from honey and soy sauce for extra sweetness and color.
  • Serve the salmon immediately: Grilled salmon is best served immediately after cooking, while it is still hot and flaky. Pair it with steamed vegetables, rice, or your favorite side dish.

Conclusion:

This Chinese five-spice and sesame grilled salmon recipe is an easy and delicious way to enjoy this healthy fish. The marinade infuses the salmon with flavor, and the grilling process creates a crispy exterior and a tender, flaky interior. Serve the salmon with your favorite sides for a complete meal. Whether you're a seasoned griller or a beginner, this recipe is sure to impress. So fire up your grill and give it a try!
