CHICKEN WONTON TACOS

Chicken Wonton Tacos image

Light and tasty, these make a great appetizer or a quick and easy main dish! Kids love them! Finally a dish that makes use of ground chicken but not so far-fetched. I bake the wonton wrappers to save time and it eliminates most of the fat. Although time-consuming, you can fry wrappers in sesame or olive oil for the extra flaky shells, folded in a triangle for about 1 minute on each side. I loved the ones at Applebee's® and decided to attempt a home version. I was extremely pleased with the healthier version! Top tacos with cilantro, red onion, or sweet onion, if desired. Serve lime wedges on the side.

Tips:

  • Choose the right wonton wrappers: Look for wonton wrappers that are thin and pliable, making them easy to fold and seal. Fresh wonton wrappers are ideal, but frozen wrappers can also be used if thawed properly.
  • Prepare the chicken filling in advance: This will save time when assembling the wontons. The chicken filling can be made up to a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: This will add flavor, texture, and color to the wontons. Some good options include carrots, celery, cabbage, and green onions.
  • Don't overfill the wontons: Otherwise, they will be difficult to fold and seal. Aim for about 1 tablespoon of filling per wonton.
  • Fold the wontons tightly: This will prevent the filling from leaking out during cooking. There are several different ways to fold wontons, so find a method that you are comfortable with.
  • Cook the wontons in a large pot of boiling water: This will help to prevent them from sticking together. Cook the wontons until they float to the top of the pot, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Serve the wontons immediately: They can be served with a variety of dipping sauces, such as soy sauce, chili sauce, or vinegar.

Conclusion:

Chicken wontons are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed as an appetizer, main course, or snack. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a little practice, you'll be able to make perfect wontons every time. So next time you're looking for a tasty and satisfying dish, give chicken wontons a try.
