Good meatloaf is about as comforting as comfort food gets. Thankfully, meatloaf doesn't have to be complex to be good. It just needs to be tender (from breadcrumbs soaked in milk and gentle handling) and flavorful (from onion, garlic, and ketchup).

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all the ingredients and equipment you need. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling around in the middle of the recipe.
  • Choose High-Quality Ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will greatly impact the final dish. Use fresh, flavorful ingredients whenever possible.
  • Season Generously: Don't be afraid to season your meatloaf well. A good rule of thumb is to use about 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper per pound of meat.
  • Mix the Meatloaf Gently: Overmixing the meatloaf can make it tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Cook the Meatloaf to the Correct Temperature: The safe internal temperature for cooked ground chicken is 165°F (74°C). Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the meatloaf has reached this temperature before removing it from the oven.
  • Let the Meatloaf Rest: Before slicing and serving the meatloaf, let it rest for about 10 minutes. This will help the juices redistribute and make the meatloaf easier to slice.
