Categories     Savory Breads

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 qt sweet milk (whole milk)
1 pt white corn meal
3 eggs
1 Tbsp butter, melted (or margarine)
1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. Bring milk to a full boil, stir in corn meal slowly. Cool. Add well beaten egg yolks, melted butter and salt. Add stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in a moderate (350 - 375 degree) oven until well done.

Tips:

  • To ensure the best results, make sure that all of your ingredients are at room temperature before you begin. This will help the batter to come together smoothly and evenly.
  • If you don't have buttermilk on hand, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
  • Be careful not to overmix the batter. Overmixing can result in a tough, dense bread.
  • If you're using a cast iron skillet, make sure that it is well-seasoned before using. This will help to prevent the bread from sticking.
  • Serve the bread warm with your favorite toppings, such as butter, honey, or jam.

Conclusion:

Cheyenne Indian Batter Bread is a delicious and versatile bread that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking.
