CHERRY COKE SALAD

I was looking for something a little different to take to a family BBQ and found this in my Taste of Home 2003 annual recipes cookbook. The thing I like most about this recipe is the ingredients are usually in my cupboards. Very pretty if you make it in a glass serving bowl. Makes a great dessert, too.

CHERRY COKE SALAD

I have been making this for my family since I was 8...I'm not sure where I first found this recipe(in 1978) but I remember being tickled that it had Cherry Coke in it and have been making it ever since...

Provided by Hellena Christenson

Categories     Other Side Dishes

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 small pkg black cherry jello (or cherry)
1- 16oz bottle cherry coke (now i buy a 20oz and measure)
1 c black pitted cherries (or maraschino cherries)
1 c pecans, chopped (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Heat 1 cup cherry coke to a boiling point and add jello and stir to dissolve.
  • 2. Add remaining one cup of cherry coke which has been chilled. Stir.
  • 3. Add cherries and pecans. Pour into a shallow mold or bowl.
  • 4. Chill until firm. Best if you hide it in the back of the fridge and wait til everyone is asleep and eat it all yourself. :-) When I do this I top with a half a tub of cool whip.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, sweet cherries. This will ensure that your salad is packed with flavor.
  • Use a variety of textures. The combination of crunchy nuts, chewy coconut, and soft fruit makes for a more interesting salad.
  • Don't overmix the salad. You want to keep the ingredients light and fluffy, so mix them gently.
  • Serve the salad chilled. This will help to keep the flavors fresh and prevent the salad from becoming soggy.
  • Add a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream to each serving. This will make the salad even more decadent and delicious.

Conclusion:

Cherry coke salad is a classic summer dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its combination of sweet cherries, crunchy nuts, and fluffy whipped cream, this salad is sure to be a hit at your next potluck or barbecue. So next time you're looking for a refreshing and delicious dessert, give cherry coke salad a try.
