This also makes a great dessert for holiday buffet; and this can be made by using any canned pie -filling- I have made it with pineapple pie filling and blueberry; both turned out great.

Provided by á-4427

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 pkg Duncan Hines® Angel Food Cake Mix
1 (8 oz) pkg cream cheese
1 cup confectioner's sugar
1 (12 oz) container frozen non-dairy whipped topping, thawed
1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling
1 1/4 cup water

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 °F. Prepare, bake and cool cake following package directions. Cut cake into 16 slices. 2. Combine cream cheese and confectioners' sugar in small bowl. Beat at medium speed with electric mixer until smooth. 3. To assemble, spread half the whipped topping in bottom of 13x9-inch pan. Arrange 8 cake slices on whipped topping: press lightly. Spread with cream cheese mixture. Arrange remaining cake slices on cream cheese mixture; press lightly. Spread with remaining whipped topping. Spoon cherry pie filling evenly over top. (Pan will be filled to the brim.) Refrigerate for 2 hours or until ready to serve. Cut into squares.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, ripe cherries. This will ensure the best flavor and texture.
  • Pit the cherries before cooking. This can be done with a cherry pitter or by hand.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan for cooking. This will help prevent the cherries from sticking and burning.
  • Cook the cherries over medium heat. This will help to preserve the cherries' flavor and prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Stir the cherries frequently while cooking. This will help to prevent them from sticking to the pan and burning.
  • Add sugar to the cherries while cooking. This will help to sweeten the cherries and make them more flavorful.
  • Add cornstarch to the cherries while cooking. This will help to thicken the cherry sauce and make it more glossy.
  • Serve the cherries in the snow immediately. This will help to keep the cherries warm and prevent them from becoming cold and mushy.

Conclusion:

Cherries in the snow is a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. The sweet and tart cherries are cooked in a creamy sauce and then served over a bed of whipped cream or ice cream. This dessert is perfect for any occasion, whether it's a holiday dinner or a summer cookout.
