OVEN BAKED CHEEZ-IT CHICKEN TENDERS

Oven Baked Cheez-It Chicken Tenders image

This came out of a cookbook I bought for my daughter... but I have to admit that I really like it too! It's a great recipe for your kids to help you make, and they think it's so cool to cook with Cheez-it's!

Time 30m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 cups Cheez-It crackers (or similar, small cheddar flavored crackers)
2 eggs
1/4 cup water
nonstick cooking spray (such as Pam)
1 lb chicken tenders (or boneless skinless breasts, cut into strips)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil (or silpat if you have it).
  • Place the Cheez-it's in a zip-lock baggie and give it to your kid to play catch, touch football, whatever. Smack the back a few times with a rolling pin... get the cheese-it's crushed, but don't worry if there are some larger pieces. Pour into a shallow bowl or plate.
  • Crack the eggs into a bowl and add the water. Whisk together until combined well. (something else your child can do!).
  • Dip the chicken in the egg mixture, then roll around in the crushed Cheez-it's (kids love this part!)
  • Place on the cookie sheet, continue until all the chicken is coated.
  • Lightly spray all coated chicken with the cooking spray.
  • Bake at 350°F about 15 -20 minutes (start checking the smaller ones after 10 minutes. I always pull them out as they get cooked through so that the smallest isn't incinerated by the time the largest piece is done cooking).

Time 1h10m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cups Cheez-It crackers, crushed
salt
pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees and grease an oven safe dish that the chicken will fit inches.
  • Rinse your chicken breasts and pat them dry with paper towel.Very important that you dry the chicken breasts before preparing them, if the chicken isn't dry the seasonings will not stick and neither will the sour cream mixture. Season on both sides with salt and pepper, to taste. In a shallow dish, combine the sour cream and buttermilk. Arrange the crushed Cheez-Its in a second shallow dish. Dip each chicken breast into the sour cream mixture, then into the Cheez-Its so that they adhere and form a crust. Place the chicken in your prepared baking dish, leaving about 1 inch between the breasts.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.

Tips:

  • For the most flavorful results, use high-quality chicken. Look for chicken that is free-range and organic, if possible.
  • To ensure that the chicken is cooked evenly, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. The chicken should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • If you don't have a meat thermometer, you can check the chicken for doneness by piercing it with a fork. If the juices run clear, the chicken is done.
  • To prevent the chicken from drying out, baste it with the cooking juices every few minutes.
  • Serve the chicken with your favorite sides, such as rice, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables.

Conclusion:

Cherkez chicken is an incredibly delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The combination of tender chicken, tangy sauce, and creamy yogurt makes this a dish that everyone will love. Whether you serve it as a main course or an appetizer, cherkez chicken is sure to be a hit.
