Tips:

  • Choose the Right Potatoes: Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes work best for this recipe due to their fluffy texture and ability to hold their shape during frying.
  • Slice Potatoes Evenly: Uniformly sliced potatoes ensure they cook evenly. Aim for slices that are about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Soak Potatoes in Water: Soaking the potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes helps remove excess starch, resulting in crispier fries.
  • Dry Potatoes Thoroughly: Before frying, pat the potatoes dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess water, which can cause splattering.
  • Fry Potatoes in Hot Oil: Use a deep fryer or a large saucepan filled with enough oil to submerge the potatoes. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C) before adding the potatoes.
  • Fry Potatoes in Batches: Avoid overcrowding the pan, as this can lower the oil temperature and result in soggy fries. Fry the potatoes in batches to ensure they cook evenly and get crispy.
  • Season Potatoes Generously: Sprinkle the fried potatoes with salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings while they are still hot. This helps the seasonings adhere to the potatoes.
  • Serve Potatoes Immediately: Cheesy fried potatoes are best enjoyed hot and crispy. Serve them immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or toppings.
