Popcorn as good as the theater's, with a kick! Salty, spicy and a little smoky. All you need is a large pot or metal bowl. I use a large 2 gallon metal bowl. Omit the chili powders if you don't like it spicy.

Time 20m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 tablespoons canola oil
½ cup white popcorn kernels
½ teaspoon popcorn salt, divided
⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
⅛ teaspoon onion powder
⅛ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
⅛ teaspoon ground chipotle chile pepper
⅛ teaspoon ground ancho chile pepper

Steps:

  • Heat canola oil in a large pot over medium-high heat; add 1 popcorn kernel to the hot oil. The oil is ready when the kernel pops.
  • Pour popcorn kernels into the hot oil; season with half the popcorn salt. Stir to coat. Cover the pot with a sheet of aluminum foil. Poke about 10 holes into the aluminum foil using a knife. Cook popcorn until all the kernels are popped, 5 to 10 minutes. Remove pot from heat; sprinkle popcorn with remaining popcorn salt, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, chipotle chile pepper, and ancho chile pepper. Toss to evenly coat.

Tips:

  • Use fresh popcorn kernels. Fresh kernels will pop better and have a better flavor than old kernels.
  • Use a large pot or Dutch oven. This will give the popcorn plenty of room to pop without burning.
  • Don't overcrowd the pot. If you overcrowd the pot, the popcorn will not pop evenly and some kernels may burn.
  • Use a high heat setting. This will help the popcorn pop quickly and evenly.
  • Shake the pot or Dutch oven constantly. This will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the popcorn from burning.
  • Listen for the popping to slow down. Once the popping slows down to about 2-3 seconds between pops, remove the pot or Dutch oven from the heat.
  • Pour the popcorn into a large bowl. This will help to cool the popcorn and prevent it from burning.
  • Add your favorite toppings. You can add cheese, chili, butter, salt, pepper, or any other toppings you like to your popcorn.

Conclusion:

Cheesy chili popcorn is a delicious and easy snack that is perfect for parties, game nights, or movie nights. It is also a great way to use up leftover chili. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make this tasty treat in no time. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy snack, give cheesy chili popcorn a try!
