EASIEST & CHEESIEST MACARONI AND CHEESE

Easiest & Cheesiest Macaroni and Cheese image

This is my personal recipe. I love Stouffer's mac and cheese and I decided to take a chance at making my own. This is pretty close and in a house of picky eaters, the first time I made it--it was gone in minutes. I have a rather large family, so you can halve the recipe to make for a smaller family. Also the larger recipe is good if you want to serve as a meal.

Time 1h

Yield 10-15 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

EASIEST AND CHEESIEST STOVE TOP MACARONI AND CHEESE

Easiest and Cheesiest Stove Top Macaroni and Cheese image

This is my Grandmother's recipe. I have no idea where it originated, but I don't ever remember a family gathering growing up when this was not served. It is not a gourmet macaroni and cheese, but it is fast and good. The only thing anyone ever says after eating it is "May I have some more please?".

Time 1h

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb macaroni
4 cups milk
1 1/2 lbs cheddar cheese, shredded
1 lb mozzarella cheese
4 teaspoons flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 medium onion, diced small
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain.
  • In a medium pot, heat butter and saute onions. Add milk, flour, salt and pepper. Bring to rolling boil. Slowly add cheddar cheese; stirring while adding. After cheddar cheese had dissolved, add the mozzarella cheese, stirring while adding.
  • Add macaroni directly to the cheese mixture in the pot. Pour into a large, greased lasagna pan. Bake for 30 minutes or until top is bubbly and golden brown.

Tips for the Cheesiest Macaroni and Cheese:

  • Use freshly grated cheese for the best flavor and texture. Pre-shredded cheese contains cellulose, which prevents it from melting smoothly.
  • Use a combination of cheeses for a more complex flavor. Cheddar is a classic, but you can also add Parmesan, Gruyère, or Gouda.
  • Cook the macaroni al dente so that it still has a slight bite to it. Overcooked macaroni will become mushy and won't hold its shape.
  • Make a roux with butter and flour to thicken the cheese sauce. This will help to prevent the sauce from becoming thin and watery.
  • Add milk or cream to the cheese sauce gradually, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. You can also use a combination of milk and cream for a richer flavor.
  • Season the cheese sauce with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste. You can also add other spices or herbs, such as paprika, cayenne pepper, or thyme.
  • Top the macaroni and cheese with breadcrumbs or panko crumbs before baking. This will give the dish a crispy, golden-brown crust.

Conclusion:

This cheesiest macaroni and cheese is the perfect comfort food. It's easy to make, and it's always a hit with family and friends. With its creamy, cheesy sauce, perfectly cooked macaroni, and crispy topping, this dish is sure to satisfy your cravings. So next time you're looking for a delicious and satisfying meal, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
