Giant Stuffed Burger Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: bacon, salted butter, large onion, ground beef, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, oil, cheddar cheese, monterey jack cheese, fresh parsley, lettuce, tomato, rolls

Provided by Julie Klink

Categories     Dinner

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 lb bacon
2 tablespoons salted butter
1 large onion, thinly sliced
3 lb ground beef
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
oil, for greasing pan
2 cups cheddar cheese, grated and divided
2 cups monterey jack cheese, grated and divided
1 cup fresh parsley, chopped, divided
lettuce, to serve
tomato, sliced, to serve
8 rolls, to serve

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350˚F (180˚C).
  • On a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, lay 5 of the bacon strips down back to back. Lifting up every other strip, fold about 1-inch (2 cm) the bacon back on itself. Lay another slice of bacon perpendicular to the strips and fold the flaps back over the horizontal strip of bacon. Repeat with the rest of the bacon until a tight weave has formed.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, or until desired crispiness has been reached.
  • In a 10-inch (25 cm) cast iron skillet heat the butter over medium-low heat. Add the onions and cook until a deep gold color, about 45 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • In a bowl, mix together the beef, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper. Divide the beef mixture in half.
  • On a piece of parchment paper spread half of the meat into a large circle about 10 inches (25 cm) long and 1 inch (2 cm) thick. Repeat with the other half of meat on a separate piece of parchment paper.
  • Sprinkle half of the cheddar and half of the Monterey Jack over one disk of ground beef, along with half of the parsley. Place the bacon lattice on top.
  • Sprinkle the rest of the cheddar and Monterey on top of the bacon lattice, along with the rest of the parsley.
  • Top with the caramelized onions. Place the other circle of meat on directly on top. Begin pinching together the meat patties making sure the fillings are not coming out, until a giant burger is formed.
  • Heat a greased 10 inch (25 cm) cast iron skillet over medium heat. Place the giant burger in the skillet carefully while peeling away the bottom piece of parchment. Cook for 5 minutes, until it is a deep brown color.
  • Using a large plate, place it over the skillet. While holding the plate in place flip the skillet so the burger falls onto to plate. Place the skillet back on the heat and slide the burger back into the pan so the cooked side is facing up now. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and place skillet in the oven to finish cooking for 5 minutes
  • Remove from pan using spatulas and place on a cutting board for serving.
  • Cut into 8 or more pieces. Serve on a roll with lettuce and tomato.
  • Enjoy!

CHEESE STUFFED HAMBURGER STEAK

Cheese Stuffed Hamburger Steak image

While growing up there were basic recipes that were staple meals in our house and many of those recipes stayed with me all through my life. This is one of those recipes. My mother use to make Hamburger Steak with brown gravy and mashed potatoes. I mix it up occasionally in my kitchen and using the same basic recipe I add cheese...

Categories     Other Main Dishes

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 lb lean hamburger meat
1/2 c yellow bell pepper finely chopped
1/2 c onion
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 Tbsp olive oil
1/4 c cheese sliced to fit

Steps:

  • 1. Mix all the ingredients together except the oil and the cheese. Heat oil in a skillet. Form meat mixture into 8 balls and flatten into patties.
  • 2. Slice cheese and lay a piece of cheese on 4 of the meat patties and cover with another meat patty. Seal by pinching edges together.
  • 3. Cook in hot oil on medium for 4 to 6 minutes on each side. Remove and plate.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ground beef: Opt for 80/20 ground beef, as it contains a good balance of meat and fat, resulting in a juicy and flavorful hamburger steak.
  • Season the beef generously: Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika to enhance the flavor of the beef.
  • Form the hamburger steaks properly: Make sure to create evenly sized and shaped patties to ensure even cooking.
  • Don't overcook the hamburger steaks: Cook the steaks over medium heat until they reach an internal temperature of 145°F for medium-rare or 160°F for medium.
  • Use a good quality cheese: Choose a cheese that melts well and has a strong flavor, such as cheddar, mozzarella, or blue cheese.
  • Stuff the hamburger steaks carefully: Make a pocket in each hamburger steak and fill it with cheese, taking care not to overstuff it.
  • Sear the hamburger steaks: Sear the steaks in a hot skillet until they are browned on both sides. This will help to seal in the juices and create a delicious crust.
  • Finish cooking the hamburger steaks in the oven: Transfer the seared hamburger steaks to a baking dish and bake them in a preheated oven until they reach the desired internal temperature.
  • Let the hamburger steaks rest before serving: Allow the hamburger steaks to rest for a few minutes before serving, as this will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Conclusion:

Cheese-stuffed hamburger steaks are a delicious and comforting dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are relatively easy to make and can be customized with a variety of different toppings and sides. Whether you are serving them for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion, these hamburger steaks are sure to be a hit.
