Number Of Ingredients 6

1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp salt
3 c sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/2 c butter, softened to room temperature
3 c finely grated sharp cheddar cheese
1 1/2 c crispy rice cereal

Steps:

  • 1. Add the cayenne pepper and salt to the sifted flour.

  • 3. Work the mixture between your fingers to produce a cornmeal-like consistency.

  • 7. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • 8. Press the balls flat with a fork or the bottom of a flour covered glass.
  • 9. Bake in a preheat oven at 350 for 15 minutes or until golden.

You will find these all over the south - some recipes call for the Tabasco, and some don't, but personally I like the SPICE :) I also like to use extra sharp cheddar cheese because the cheese is the main flavor of the cracker

Time 35m

Yield 3 dozen, 36 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup unsalted butter
1/2 lb sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, ground
2 cups crispy rice cereal

Steps:

  • Combine butter and cheese.
  • Add flour, salt, Tabasco, and cayenne.
  • Add cereal last, as to not crush up too much.
  • Roll dough into small balls, and flatten slightly on ungreased baking sheet.
  • Cook for 15 minutes at 400°F.
  • Store in an airtight container - these freeze well.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor. If you can find it, use a chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • Be careful not to overcook the marshmallows. If you do, they will become tough and chewy.
  • Use a large bowl to mix the ingredients. This will make it easier to stir and prevent the mixture from becoming too thick.
  • If you don't have a microwave, you can melt the butter and chocolate in a saucepan over low heat.
  • Be patient when waiting for the crispy bars to set. It may take up to 2 hours, but it's worth the wait!
  • Store the crispy bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Crispy bars are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. They're also a great way to use up leftover rice cereal. So next time you're looking for a sweet snack, give crispy bars a try. You won't be disappointed!
