CHEDDAR PEAR PIE
I take this pie to lots of different gatherings, and I make sure to have copies of the recipe with me since people always ask for it. It's amusing to see some folks puzzling over what's in the filling - they expect apples but love the subtle sweetness of the pears. -Cynthia LaBree, Elmer, New Jersey

Tips:
- Choose ripe, firm pears: Pears that are too soft will break down too much during baking, while pears that are too hard will not soften enough. Look for pears that yield slightly to pressure when you gently squeeze them.
- Peel and core the pears before slicing them: This will make it easier to slice the pears evenly and prevent the skin from toughening during baking.
- Use a sharp knife to slice the pears: This will help to prevent the pears from bruising or breaking.
- Toss the pear slices with lemon juice: This will help to prevent the pears from browning.
- Use a combination of sharp and mild cheddar cheese: This will give the pie a complex flavor. You can also use other types of cheese, such as Gruyère or Fontina.
- Bake the pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling: This will usually take about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
- Let the pie cool for at least 15 minutes before serving: This will allow the filling to set and the flavors to meld.
Conclusion:
Cheddar pear pie is a delicious and unique dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The combination of sweet pears, sharp cheddar cheese, and flaky crust is sure to please everyone. So next time you are looking for a special dessert, give cheddar pear pie a try.
