1 Tbsp brown sugar
5 - 6 c pastas ( i used two cups of each - rigatoni, penne, cavatappi ) prepared as to manufacturers instructions ( not quite al dente )

2 c shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 c grated parmesan cheese
1 - 8 oz package, mozzarella cheese slices
PREP TIME INCLUDES THE TIME IT TAKES TO SIMMER SAUCE

  • 2. In a large skillet, add 2 - 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Over medium heat, combine ground beef, sausage, pepperoni, onion, green pepper, garlic and seasonings until vegetables are tender and beef, sausage are cooked through. Drain; return to pan.

  • 6. In prepared baking dish or pan; coat bottom with about 1 cup sauce. Now, add about 3 cups pasta/cheese mixture. Spread evenly.
  • 7. Now, add 2 - 2 1/2 cups meat sauce; spread evenly.
  • 8. Repeat layers, ending with sauce.
  • 9. Place the mozzarella slices evenly on top of the sauce. I then placed the saved pepperoni on top of the cheese. Optional Bake the Cavatini 30 - 45 minutes, or until browning and bubbly.
  • 10. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
  • 11. I served this with a tossed salad, and crusty Italian bread. Tastes like lasagna, but without the fuss...delish!!!

QUICK CAVATINI (SUPREME PIZZA PASTA)

Quick Cavatini (Supreme Pizza Pasta) image

This recipe was given to me by a friend in MOMS Club. The basic recipe is the same, but I have changed it just a bit to reflect our preferences. For example, DD loves black olives so I added them as one of the "toppings." I love this recipe because it is easy to double or triple to make for big crowds. You can add whatever you want, even change the meat to sausage if you want. AND, it's a great meal to prepare in advance. It refrigerates well if you want to make it a day ahead and freezes well if you want to make it even further in advance.

Tips:

  • Choose the right pasta: Cavatini is a great choice for this recipe because it has a sturdy shape that can hold up to the hearty sauce.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: This means cooking it until it is just tender, but still has a slight bite to it. This will help prevent the pasta from becoming mushy when it is added to the sauce.
  • Use a flavorful sauce: The sauce is the star of this dish, so make sure to use a sauce that is packed with flavor. A simple tomato sauce made with fresh tomatoes, garlic, and basil is a great option.
  • Add some protein: If you want to make this dish more filling, you can add some protein, such as cooked chicken, sausage, or meatballs.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs: Fresh herbs, such as basil, parsley, or oregano, can add a pop of color and flavor to the dish.

Conclusion:

Cavatini pasta is a delicious and versatile dish that can be made with a variety of different ingredients. Whether you are looking for a simple and quick meal or a more elaborate dish, there is a cavatini pasta recipe out there for you. So next time you are looking for a new pasta dish to try, be sure to give cavatini a try.
