1 teaspoon vanilla
10 -14 tart apples, washed, dries
1 cup salted peanuts, chopped

  • continue cooking stirring occasionally until candy thermometer reaches 245*F or small amount of mixture forms a firm ball 20 to 25 minutes.
  • remove from heat, stir in vanilla.
  • dip apples in caramel mixture, dip end of apples in chopped peanuts.

  • refrigerate until firm, about 10 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choosing the Right Apples: For the best caramel apples, select firm, crisp apples with smooth, unblemished skin. Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn are great choices.
  • Preparing the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly to remove any dirt or residue. Insert lollipop sticks or wooden skewers into the center of each apple, leaving enough room at the top for dipping.
  • Melting the Caramel: Microwave the caramel bits or unwrapped caramels in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth and melted. Alternatively, melt the caramel in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly.
  • Dipping the Apples: Dip each apple into the melted caramel, twirling it to ensure an even coating. Hold the apple over the bowl for a few seconds to allow the excess caramel to drip off.
  • Adding Toppings: While the caramel is still wet, immediately roll the apple in your desired toppings, such as chopped nuts, sprinkles, or crushed candy.
  • Chilling the Apples: Place the dipped apples on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or until the caramel has hardened.
