Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 T honey
6 plump figs, trimmed and halved
1 1/2 T unsalted butter
4 thyme sprigs plus extra for garnish
4 T creme fraiche

Steps:

  • Spoon honey over cut sides of figs. Heat a large heavy skillet over a medium high flame. Add butter. Throw in thyme sprigs and then figs, cut side down. Cook undisturbed for 3-5 mins to caramelize. Turn figs over and cook 1 minute more. Transfer figs to plate. Return skillet to heat and add about 5 T water. Simmer, scraping the caramelized honey. Pour this sauce over figs and serve warm with spoonfuls of creme fraiche and extra thyme leaves to garnish.

Tips:

  • To select the ripest figs, look for ones that are plump and have a slight give when gently pressed.
  • If you don't have a grill, you can caramelize the figs in a hot skillet over medium heat.
  • Be careful not to overcook the figs, as they will become tough and chewy.
  • Serve the caramelized figs immediately, while they are still warm and gooey.
  • For a more decadent dessert, top the caramelized figs with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or crème fraîche.

Conclusion:

Caramelized figs are a delicious and versatile dessert that can be enjoyed on their own or as part of a larger dish. They are perfect for a summer party or a special occasion. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a truly memorable dessert that your guests will love.
