WATERMELON OR CANTALOUPE AGUA FRESCA

Watermelon or Cantaloupe Agua Fresca image

Agua fresca is a light fruit drink popular throughout Mexico. It's simply made by blending fruit with water, a bit of sugar and a little lime juice. Begin with sweet, juicy melon, or your agua fresca won't have much flavor.

CANTALOUPE-LIME AGUA FRESCA WITH CHIA SEEDS

Cantaloupe-Lime Agua Fresca With Chia Seeds image

A light, refreshing blender drink that is sweet and a little bit tart. Although I make this in a blender, I think it qualifies as an agua fresca rather than a smoothie, as it is made with pure fruit, enriched with a spoonful of soaked chia seeds. The flavor of the drink will only be as good as your melon, so seek out the best cantaloupe, or other sweet orange melon, you can find. I don't add sweetener to the drink, but you can if you think it needs a little something.

Tips:

  • Select ripe cantaloupes: Choose cantaloupes that are heavy for their size, have a deep orange color, and give a slightly sweet aroma. Avoid cantaloupes with bruises or soft spots.
  • Chill your cantaloupe: For a refreshing agua fresca, chill your cantaloupe before blending. This will help to enhance the flavor and make the drink more refreshing.
  • Use filtered water: Using filtered water will help to ensure that your agua fresca has a clean and crisp taste. If you don't have filtered water, you can boil tap water and let it cool before using.
  • Adjust the sweetness: The amount of sugar or honey you add to your agua fresca is a matter of personal preference. Start with a small amount and taste-test as you go, adding more sweetener until you reach the desired sweetness level.
  • Add some citrus: A squeeze of lime or lemon juice can help to brighten up the flavor of your agua fresca. You can also add a few slices of citrus fruit to the pitcher for a garnish.

Conclusion:

Cantaloupe agua fresca is a refreshing and flavorful drink that is perfect for a hot summer day. It is easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
