CANDY CANE BLOSSOMS

From Hersheys.com. I love Hershey's special edition kisses. This year's white chocolate kiss with a red striped peppermint shell makes some of the most festive cookies on my cookie trays. I used green decorator's sugar which contrast nicely with the red and white kiss. Next time I might try peppermint extract instead of vanilla and use crushed candy canes in place of the green sugar crystals. Be very careful moving the cookies after the kiss is in; the kisses will collapse.

CANDY CANE BLOSSOMS

Categories     Chocolate

Number Of Ingredients 10

48 Hershey's "Candy Cane" kisses (freeze for at least 24 hours prior to making cookies)
1 stick of butter softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 Tbsp milk
Red and green sugar crystals

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350. Remove wrappers from candy and set aside. Beat butter, sugar, egg and vanilla in a large bowl until well blended. Stir together the flour, baking soda and salt. Then add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk to the butter mixture, beating until well-blended. Roll dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in the red and green sugar crystals, then place 2" apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned and cookie is set. Remove from oven, cool 2-3 minutes, then press a candy cane kiss into the center of each cookie. Remove cookies to wire rack and cool completely, allowing the base of the kiss candy to "set" before disturbing. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.

Tips:

  • Use fresh candy canes: Fresh candy canes will give you the best flavor and texture. If your candy canes are old or stale, they may not melt properly and will be difficult to work with.
  • Be careful not to overcook the candy: If you overcook the candy, it will become hard and brittle. Cook the candy until it reaches a soft-ball stage, which means that the candy will form a soft ball when dropped into cold water.
  • Use a candy thermometer: A candy thermometer is the best way to ensure that the candy reaches the correct temperature. If you don't have a candy thermometer, you can use the cold water test to check the temperature of the candy.
  • Work quickly: The candy will start to harden as it cools, so you need to work quickly to shape the blossoms. If the candy becomes too hard to work with, you can reheat it in the microwave for a few seconds.
  • Be creative: You can decorate the candy cane blossoms with sprinkles, nuts, or other toppings. You can also use different colors of candy canes to create different designs.

Conclusion:

Candy cane blossoms are a delicious and festive treat that is perfect for the holiday season. They are easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a little creativity, you can create beautiful and unique candy cane blossoms that will impress your friends and family.
