CAMPFIRE SANDWICH

A simple little campfire sandwich that's enjoyable, esp. on a cool evening. Watch the time so you don't burn them too much.

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 20m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 lb ham, chopped (or bologna, etc.)
1 cup grated cheese (I've used many different types)
3 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 cup pickle relish
6 -8 olives, chopped
butter, as required
6 hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Butter buns on both halves.
  • Mix the rest of the ingredients together.
  • Spread mixture on buns equally.
  • Wrap each bun in heavy foil and seal tight.
  • Heat on hot coals for 4-5 minutes.
  • Turn and heat other side for 3-4 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right bread. A sturdy bread that can hold up to the heat of the fire is best. Good options include sourdough, French bread, or a hearty whole-wheat bread.
  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. The better the ingredients, the better the sandwich will be. Look for fresh vegetables, ripe cheese, and flavorful meats.
  • Don't overload the sandwich. Too many ingredients will make it difficult to cook evenly and may cause the sandwich to fall apart.
  • Cook the sandwich slowly and evenly. Patience is key when cooking a campfire sandwich. Cook it over low heat for a long time, so that the bread has time to toast and the cheese has time to melt.
  • Serve the sandwich hot and gooey. Campfire sandwiches are best enjoyed immediately after they are cooked.

Conclusion:

Campfire sandwiches are a delicious and easy way to enjoy a meal outdoors. With a little planning and preparation, you can create a sandwich that is sure to please everyone. So next time you're camping, be sure to give campfire sandwiches a try.
