CAJUN QUICHE IN A RICE CRUST

Cajun Quiche in a Rice Crust image

This recipe came from Cooking Light magazine, we aren't usually quiche fans but this was awsum! A tip: I like to put leftover cooked rice in the freezer, this way I always have precooked rice when I need it and I don't waste the leftovers. Also I add 1-2 tablespoons of Cajun seasoning to the egg mixture. Crust browns nicely! Hope you enjoy!

TOUCH OF CAJUN QUICHE

Touch of Cajun Quiche image

As the innkeeper at Belle Oaks Inn and Boothe House Bed & Breakfast, it's always a challenge to serve up something different for breakfast every morning. My specialty has become casseroles and quiches, and I've tweaked many recipes to make them make-ahead friendly, so I can prep them the night before, refrigerate overnight, and...

1 1/2 tsp cajun seasoning (i use tony cachere's)

Steps:

  • 1. Roll piecrust into a 9" pie pan (you can use your own homemade crust if desired). Prick bottom of crust with a fork. Line pie plate with aluminum foil and bake in a 350 degree oven for 15-20 minutes. Allow crust to cool before adding other ingredients.
  • 2. Sprinkle cheese over bottom of crust and add andouille sausage and green onions.

Tips: Elevate Your Cajun Quiche

  • Savory Crust: Replace store-bought crust with a homemade one. Try a Cajun-spiced shortcrust pastry or a flaky puff pastry.
  • Spicy Accents: Don't be shy with the Cajun spices. Cayenne, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder add depth of flavor. You could also add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
  • Veggie Medley: Don't limit yourself to the veggies mentioned in the recipe. Bell peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, and corn are all great additions.
  • Cheese Symphony: Experiment with different cheeses. A blend of cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan would create a gooey, flavorful filling.
  • Egg Mixture Mastery: Ensure the eggs and milk are at room temperature before mixing. This helps them blend smoothly and evenly.
  • Crust Pre-Baking Precision: Pre-bake the crust for 10-15 minutes before adding the filling. This prevents a soggy bottom.
  • Efficient Quiche Cooling: After baking, let the quiche cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. This helps it set properly.

Conclusion: A Cajun Delight

The Cajun Quiche is a delectable dish that blends the vibrant flavors of Cajun cuisine with the comforting richness of a quiche. With its customizable fillings and the ability to adapt to dietary preferences, this recipe is a versatile crowd-pleaser.
