CAJUN BAKED SHRIMP

Yield Makes 6 to 8 main-course servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 pounds uncooked large shrimp, unpeeled
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter
1 1/2 cups bottled Italian dressing
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup chopped fresh mint
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce
4 bay leaves, crumbled
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Place shrimp in 13x9x2-inch glass baking dish. Melt butter in medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in Italian dressing, lemon juice, mint, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, bay leaves, pepper, and salt. Cool sauce to room temperature; mix into shrimp. Refrigerate at least 1 hour and up to 3 hours, tossing occasionally.
  • Preheat oven to 450°F. Bake shrimp until just opaque in center, about 15 minutes, and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose Fresh, High-Quality Shrimp: Opt for large, juicy shrimp with a firm texture and a vibrant color. Avoid shrimp that appears slimy or has an off smell.
  • Properly Devein and Clean the Shrimp: Deveining removes the digestive tract, which can sometimes contain grit or sand. Use a sharp knife to make a shallow incision along the back of the shrimp and remove the vein.
  • Use a Flavorful Marinade: The marinade not only adds flavor but also helps tenderize the shrimp. Experiment with different combinations of spices, herbs, and liquids to create a marinade that complements the shrimp.
  • Don't Overcook the Shrimp: Shrimp cooks quickly, so it's important to be mindful of the cooking time. Overcooked shrimp becomes tough and rubbery. Aim for cooking the shrimp until they turn opaque and pink, which usually takes a few minutes.
  • Serve with Complementary Sides: Cajun baked shrimp pairs well with various sides such as rice, pasta, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad. Choose sides that enhance the flavors of the shrimp without overpowering them.

Conclusion:

Cajun baked shrimp is a versatile dish that can be enjoyed as an appetizer, main course, or even as part of a larger seafood platter. The bold Cajun flavors, combined with the succulent texture of the shrimp, make this dish a hit among seafood enthusiasts. By following these tips, you can create a delicious and memorable Cajun baked shrimp dish that will impress your family and friends.
