Steps:
- Preheat a 6-quart Dutch oven over medium heat. Add avocado oil to the warm pan and heat until it shimmers, about 1 minute. Add sausage pieces, cut-side down, and heat until browned, 1 to 2 minutes. Turn and brown on the other side, about 1 to 2 minutes more. Transfer sausage to a plate and reserve juices in the pan.
- Add carrots, potatoes, and onion to the Dutch oven and stir to coat with pan juices. Add chicken broth and black pepper, stirring to combine. Return browned sausage to the pan on top of the vegetables, and place cabbage wedges on top of kielbasa. Bring broth to a boil, about 5 minutes, then cover the Dutch oven and reduce heat to a simmer. Cook until vegetables are fork tender, about 20 minutes.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove all vegetables and sausage pieces and set aside in a bowl. At this point, cabbage may be cut into bite-sized pieces.
- Place flour in a small bowl and add enough water to make a thin paste, stirring until all lumps dissolve. Whisk liquid in the Dutch oven constantly while gradually adding flour mixture until liquid boils again, about 5 minutes. Return vegetables and sausage to the Dutch oven and adjust seasoning, if necessary. Serve in individual bowls.

Steps:
- 1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions, carrots, and cabbage. Stir to coat vegetables well with oil. Add the cut sausage. Then add garlic salt, and pepper to taste; stir.
- 2. Cover and simmer over medium-low heat for 20 minutes until crisp-tender or to the desired doneness.
- 3. Cut tomatoes into fourths; add tomatoes and juice. Continue cooking for 10 minutes.
- 4. Serve up a bowl of the stew and accompany with a corn muffin or cornbread, if desired. Enjoy.
Tips:
- Choose the right cabbage: For this stew, a firm and dense cabbage, such as green cabbage or Savoy cabbage, works best. Avoid using red cabbage, as it has a more pungent flavor that may not complement the other ingredients well.
- Use good quality sausage: The type of sausage you use will greatly impact the flavor of the stew. Choose a sausage that is flavorful and has a good balance of spices. If you can, use fresh sausage rather than pre-cooked sausage, as it will have a better texture and flavor.
- Don't overcrowd the pot: When adding the cabbage to the pot, do it in batches so that the cabbage has enough room to cook evenly. If you overcrowd the pot, the cabbage will steam rather than sauté, and it will not develop the desired flavor.
- Season to taste: The amount of salt, pepper, and other seasonings you add to the stew will depend on your personal preferences. Taste the stew as you cook it and adjust the seasonings accordingly.
- Serve immediately: Cabbage sausage stew is best served immediately after it is cooked. The cabbage will continue to cook and soften as it sits, so if you let it sit for too long, it may become too mushy.
Conclusion:
Cabbage sausage stew is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own personal preferences. With its combination of savory sausage, tender cabbage, and flavorful broth, this stew is sure to be a hit with the whole family. So next time you are looking for a comforting and delicious meal, give this cabbage sausage stew a try. You won't be disappointed!
