Tips:

  • Sauté the cabbage, sausage, and apples first. This will help to develop their flavor and create a more flavorful soup.
  • Use a variety of cabbage. Green cabbage is a classic choice, but you can also use red cabbage, Savoy cabbage, or bok choy. Each type of cabbage will give the soup a slightly different flavor and texture.
  • Add other vegetables to the soup. Carrots, celery, and potatoes are all good additions. You can also add a handful of chopped greens, such as kale or spinach.
  • Use a good quality sausage. A spicy sausage will give the soup a more flavorful kick, while a mild sausage will be more subtle. You can also use ground beef or turkey if you prefer.
  • Season the soup to taste. Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are all good starting points. You can also add other spices, such as cumin, paprika, or chili powder.
