Time 20m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

12 eggs
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 loaf bread

Steps:

  • Beat eggs.
  • Beat in buttermilk, almond extract and seasonings.
  • Dip bread in batter, turning to coat both sides, and cook on a lightly oiled skillet until both sides are golden.
  • Delicious topped with apple sauce, powdered sugar or syrup.

Tips:

  • Use fresh buttermilk, which is thicker and more flavorful than store-bought buttermilk.
  • If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
  • Use day-old bread for the best French toast. Stale bread will absorb the egg mixture better and result in a crispier crust.
  • Whisk the egg mixture until it is well-blended and smooth. This will help prevent the French toast from becoming eggy.
  • Dip the bread slices into the egg mixture and let them soak for a few seconds on each side. This will help the bread absorb the egg mixture and cook evenly.
  • Cook the French toast over medium heat. This will help prevent the bread from burning and allow it to cook through evenly.
  • Serve the French toast immediately with your favorite toppings, such as butter, syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Buttermilk French toast is a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast or brunch recipe. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a stack of fluffy, golden brown French toast that is sure to please everyone at the table.
