Yield 32 rolls

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 eggs (well beaten)
1 cup milk
5 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/3 cup white sugar
1 package dry yeast

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven 400* 2. Heat milk to scalding then add shortening sugar and salt. Cool to luke-warm 3. Add yeast which has been soaked in 1/3 cup warm water. 4. Add yeast which has been soaked in 1/3 cup warm water. Add eggs and flour mix to soft dough and knead lightly. 5. Raise to double in bulk. divide into 4 parts. Roll and spread with butter. 6. Cut into 8 pieces. Roll up and place on greased cookie sheet. Let raise double in bulk. 7. Bake 400* for 12 to 15 minutes

Tips:

  • Activate the yeast properly: Ensure the water is warm enough (around 110-115°F) to activate the yeast. If the water is too cold, the yeast won't activate, and if it's too hot, it will kill the yeast. Proof the yeast in a warm place for 5-10 minutes before using, or until it becomes foamy.
  • Knead the dough until it's smooth and elastic: This helps develop the gluten in the flour, which gives the bread its structure and elasticity. Knead the dough for at least 5-7 minutes, or until it passes the windowpane test. To do the windowpane test, stretch a small piece of dough between your fingers. If you can see through the dough without it tearing, it's ready.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place: This allows the yeast to ferment and produce carbon dioxide gas, which makes the bread rise. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Shape the dough into rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the gas. Divide the dough into equal pieces and shape them into rolls. You can use a variety of shapes, such as balls, braids, or knots.
  • Let the rolls rise again: Place the shaped rolls on a greased baking sheet and let them rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.
  • Bake the rolls: Preheat the oven to the desired temperature according to the recipe. Brush the rolls with melted butter or egg wash before baking. Bake the rolls for the specified time, or until they are golden brown.

Conclusion:

Butterfly rolls are a delicious and versatile bread that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are easy to make and can be customized with a variety of fillings and toppings. With a little practice, you'll be able to make perfect butterfly rolls that are sure to impress your family and friends.
