Time 1h

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 large unpeeled russet potatoes, cut into 1/4-inch strips
¼ cup olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon ground dried thyme
¼ teaspoon seasoned salt
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
¼ teaspoon seasoned salt

Steps:

  • Preheat an oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Place the potatoes in a mixing bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Season with garlic, thyme, and 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt. Toss until evenly coated. Lift the fries out of the bowl and spread onto a nonstick baking sheet in a single layer. Save the remaining oil in the bowl.
  • Bake in the preheated oven 30 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through baking. Return the fries to the bowl with the olive oil, sprinkle with 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese and parsley. Toss to coat, then spread again onto the baking sheet. Return to the oven, and bake until the Parmesan cheese melts, about 10 minutes. Sprinkle the fries with the remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese and 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt to serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are a good choice for oven fries, as they are starchy and hold their shape well. Yukon Gold potatoes are also a good option, as they have a creamier texture.
  • Cut the potatoes evenly: This will help them cook evenly. If you have a mandoline slicer, use it to cut the potatoes into uniform slices. Otherwise, use a sharp knife to cut the potatoes into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  • Soak the potatoes in water: This will help to remove excess starch and prevent the fries from sticking together. Soak the potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly: Before tossing the potatoes with oil and seasonings, be sure to dry them thoroughly. This will help the oil and seasonings to adhere to the potatoes and prevent them from becoming soggy.
  • Use a high-quality olive oil: Olive oil is a good choice for oven fries, as it has a high smoke point and a rich flavor. You can also use avocado oil or grapeseed oil.
  • Season the fries generously: Don't be afraid to use a lot of seasonings on your oven fries. Garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and chili powder are all good choices. You can also add fresh herbs, such as rosemary, thyme, or oregano.
  • Bake the fries at a high temperature: This will help them to crisp up. Bake the fries at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

Conclusion:

These butter garlic oven fries with herbs are a delicious and easy side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for any occasion, from a casual weeknight dinner to a special holiday meal. So next time you're looking for a tasty and satisfying side dish, give these oven fries a try.
