Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 11

6 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
6 large carrots, cut into 1" segments
3 lb lean stew meat
1/3 c soy sauce, low sodium
1 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp pepper
3 Tbsp all purpose flour
1/2 c onions, chopped
1 c beef broth or bouillon
8 oz tomato sauce

Steps:

  • 1. Layer potatoes and carrots in bottom of crock pot. Arrange meat over carrots. Sprinkle with soy sauce, salt, paprika, pepper and flour. Top with the onions. Mix the beef broth and tomato sauce together and pour over all. Cover.
  • 2. Cook on LOW, 9-11 hours, AUTO: 7 hours, or HIGH, 5 hours.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast, brisket, and short ribs are all good choices for beef stew. They are tough cuts of meat that become tender when cooked slowly in liquid.
  • Brown the beef before stewing: Browning the beef adds flavor and helps to develop the stew's rich color.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Carrots, celery, onions, and potatoes are all classic stew vegetables. You can also add other vegetables, such as parsnips, turnips, or mushrooms.
  • Use a flavorful liquid: Beef broth, red wine, or even beer can all be used to make a delicious stew. If you're using water, be sure to add some herbs and spices to give it flavor.
  • Cook the stew low and slow: The longer you cook the stew, the more tender the meat will become. Aim for at least 2 hours of cooking time, or even longer if you have the time.

Conclusion:

Beef stew is a hearty and flavorful dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It's also a great way to use up leftover beef. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious beef stew that your family and friends will love.
