CARAMELIZED BRUSSEL SPROUTS WITH BACON & PISTACHIOS RECIPE

Caramelized Brussel Sprouts with Bacon & Pistachios Recipe image

Provided by ckovak

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb. Brussels sprouts, trimmed and washed
1/4 lb. Bacon, diced
2 TBSP. Butter
2 shallots, minced
1 TBSP. garlic, minced
1/4 cup roasted pistachios, shelled
1/8 cup balsamic vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Blanch Brussels sprouts in salted boiling water for 7-8 minutes, or until almost tender. Strain immediately and shock in ice water to stop cooking. In large sauté pan, cook bacon until it begins to crisp. Add butter, shallots and garlic. Add Brussels sprouts and sauté for 1-2 minutes, until they begin to caramelize. Finish by adding pistachios and balsamic vinegar. Season with salt and pepper.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh Brussels sprouts: Look for Brussels sprouts that are firm and have tightly closed leaves. Avoid any that are wilted or have brown spots.
  • Trim the Brussels sprouts: Cut off the brown or damaged outer leaves and the stem end of each Brussels sprout.
  • Slice the Brussels sprouts: For this recipe, the Brussels sprouts are sliced in half lengthwise. You can also slice them into quarters or eighths, depending on your preference.
  • Cook the Brussels sprouts over medium heat: This will help them to caramelize and develop a slightly browned exterior while remaining tender on the inside.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: If you overcrowd the pan, the Brussels sprouts will steam instead of roasting and won't get as crispy.
  • Add the bacon and pistachios towards the end of cooking: This will prevent them from burning.
  • Finish the dish with balsamic vinegar: The balsamic vinegar adds a sweet and tangy flavor to the dish and helps to balance out the bitterness of the Brussels sprouts.

Conclusion:

This recipe for Brussels sprouts with bacon, pistachios, and balsamic vinegar is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any occasion. The Brussels sprouts are roasted until tender and slightly browned, and the bacon and pistachios add a salty and crunchy contrast. The balsamic vinegar adds a sweet and tangy flavor that helps to balance out the bitterness of the Brussels sprouts. This dish is sure to please everyone at your table.
