Here's what you need: flour, sugar, kosher salt, cold butter, water, eggs, sugar, McCormick® vanilla extract, kosher salt, butter, flour, lemon zest, green apples

Provided by Tasty

Categories     Desserts

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 ¼ cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ cup cold butter, cut into small cubes
¼ cup water, ice
4 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon McCormick® vanilla extract
1 teaspoon kosher salt
16 tablespoons butter
½ cup flour
1 teaspoon lemon zest
3 green apples, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Crust: Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a food processor. Pulse a few times to mix. Add in butter and pulse a few times to break the butter down into pebble-size pieces. With the food processor running, drizzle in ice water. The dough should stick together when pressed between your fingers. (If dough doesn't stick together, add more water 1 tablespoon at a time.)
  • Lay out a sheet of plastic wrap. Dump dough onto the plastic wrap and shape into a disc. Cover tightly with the plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • Preheat oven to 350ºF (175ºC).
  • Generously spray a 9 or 10 inch (23 or 25 cm) tart pan with nonstick spray. On a floured surface, roll out the pie crust into a circle that is 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) bigger than your tart. Lift crust into the tart pan and press against the sides of the pan. Trim the edges of the dough so that it is level with the top of the pan.
  • Filling: Whisk eggs, sugar, McCormick Vanilla Extract, and salt in a medium bowl, then set aside.
  • Place butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Let butter completely melt and foam, stirring occasionally. Keep stirring as the foaming subsides and the butter begins to brown. Once butter browns, quickly transfer to a bowl and let cool for 10 minutes. Whisk browned butter into the egg mixture. Whisk in flour and lemon zest.
  • Arrange sliced apples in a spiral pattern on the pie crust. Pour custard over apples, until custard reaches ½ inch (1 ¼ cm) below the top of crust (if using a 9-inch (23 cm) pan, you will have a little custard left over).
  • Place in oven and bake for 50 minutes (cover with foil if the top starts browning too much, or until custard is set).
  • Let cool completely before slicing and serving.
  • Enjoy!

BROWN BUTTER APPLE TART

An easy cookie crust and a fragrant, custardy filling laced with rings of apple set this fall dessert apart from the competition.

Categories     Dairy     Dessert     Bake     Thanksgiving     Apple     Fall     Butter     Bon Appétit     Kidney Friendly     Vegetarian     Pescatarian     Peanut Free     Tree Nut Free     Soy Free     Kosher     Tart

Yield 8-10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 20

Crust:
Nonstick vegetable oil spray
1 cup (2 sticks) plus 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 large egg, beaten to blend
2 tablespoons heavy cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
Filling and assembly:
4 large eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
3 firm, tart apples (such as Pink Lady or Braeburn), peeled, cored, cut crosswise into 1/4"-thick rings
Whipped cream
Special Equipment
An 11"-diameter or 11x8x1" tart pan with removable bottom

Steps:

  • For crust:
  • Coat tart pan with nonstick spray. Using an electric mixer or stand mixer fitted with a paddle, mix butter, sugar, and salt until pale and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  • Add egg, cream, and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Add flour all at once and beat until dough almost comes together. Turn dough out onto a work surface. Knead until dough just comes together, 4-5 times. Divide dough in half; form each half into a smooth ball. Flatten into disks and wrap each disk tightly in plastic. Chill 1 disk overnight; freeze second disk for another use.
  • Roll out chilled dough disk between two sheets of plastic wrap, lifting and adjusting plastic as needed, until 1/8" thick and 2" wider than tart pan. Transfer dough in plastic wrap to a baking sheet and refrigerate until firm enough to handle, about 30 minutes.
  • Remove top piece of plastic from dough. Invert dough into tart pan; press onto bottom and up sides. If dough is soft, chill until firm enough for remaining sheet of plastic to be removed. Trim edges of dough (patch up any holes or tears with extra dough). Chill until firm, about 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Line dough with parchment paper or heavy-duty foil, leaving a 1"-2" overhang. Fill paper with dried beans or pie weights. Bake tart shell just until dough has dried and does not look wet in any spots, about 20 minutes. (If center still looks wet, bake crust without weights until dried and opaque, a few minutes longer.)
  • For filling and assembly:
  • Whisk eggs and sugar in a medium bowl just to blend. Place butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Scrape in seeds from vanilla bean; add bean. Cook, stirring often, until butter foams, then browns (do not burn), about 5 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes; remove bean. Slowly whisk brown butter into egg mixture; whisk in flour and salt.
  • Line tart shell with apples.4 Pour filling over (if using rectangular pan, you may have 1/2 cup excess filling). Bake until apples are deep golden brown and filling is puffed, cracked, and set in center, 70-80 minutes.
  • Let tart cool in pan on a wire rack, about 2 hours. Remove pan sides. Serve warm or at room temperature with whipped cream.

LOW-SUGAR APPLE TART RECIPE BY TASTY

Low-Sugar Apple Tart Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: rolled oats, unsalted butter, all-purpose flour, kosher salt, water, honeycrisp apple, lemon, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, unsweetened applesauce, unsalted butter, apricot jam

Provided by Kiano Moju

Categories     Bakery Goods

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

¾ cup rolled oats
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, 3/4 stick
¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon kosher salt
3 tablespoons water
2 ½ lb honeycrisp apple, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (4 apples)
½ lemon, juiced
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
1 tablespoon apricot jam, optional

Steps:

  • Make the crust: In a food processor, blend the oats into a coarse powder.
  • Add the butter to a medium saucepan over medium heat and cook until nutty brown in color, 5-6 minutes. Once the butter has browned, add the ground oats, flour, salt, and water, and mix to combine. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Transfer the crust mixture to a 9-inch (20 cm) tart pan, spreading evenly across the bottom and up the sides. Chill for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375˚F (190˚C).
  • Make the filling: Place the apples in a large microwave-safe bowl and squeeze the lemon juice over, then toss to coat. Microwave for 4 minutes. Cover with a plate and let steam for 5 minutes.
  • Season the apples with the cinnamon and nutmeg, and toss to coat.
  • Spread the applesauce over the bottom of the crust.
  • Starting from the outside and working inward, arrange the apples in the pan in a circular pattern with the curved side up. Begin with the larger slices, overlapping slightly, and continue until the entire crust is filled. Brush the apples with the melted butter.
  • Bake for 1 hour, checking occasionally. If the edges are browning too quickly, cover gently with foil to prevent further browning as the tart cooks through.
  • If using, microwave the apricot jam for 20-30 seconds to melt. Use a pastry brush to paint the apricot jam over the warm tart for a nice, shiny finish.
  • Let the tart cool to room temperature before slicing and serving.
  • Enjoy!

APPLE BROWN BUTTER TART

Time 2h45m

Yield 8 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 1/2 sticks cold unsalted butter, cut into pea-size pieces
1 cup flour
Pinch kosher salt
1/4 cup ice water
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
3 eggs
1 vanilla bean, split and insides scraped
2 tablespoons butter
6 Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1/8ths
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup brandy
1/2 cup golden raisins
Flour, for dusting
1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • For the crust: Combine the butter, flour, and salt in a food processor. Pulse until the mixture looks like Parmesan cheese. Drizzle in half the cold water and pulse until the mixture forms a rough ball, adding the remaining water if needed. Remove the dough from the food processor, form into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • For the filling: In a small saucepan, melt the butter and cook it until it starts to brown and begins to smell like hazelnuts. Transfer the butter to the bowl of a stand mixer equipped with a paddle. Add the sugar and beat together on medium speed. Gradually add the flour. Once the flour has combined, add the eggs one at a time. Beat in the vanilla bean seeds.
  • For the apples: In a large saute pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the apples and sugar and cook until the apples start to soften, 6 to7 minutes. Pull the pan off the burner and add in the brandy. Return to the fire and flambe, if desired, or just let the alcohol burn off. Toss in the raisins.
  • To assemble: Remove the dough from the fridge 15 minutes before ready to use, this will allow the dough to soften and come to room temperature.
  • Dust a clean work surface with flour. Roll the dough out 1/8-inch thick and lay it in the tart pan with lots of overhang on the sides. Schmear half the filling into the bottom of the tart pan and top with the apple mixture. Fold the extra dough over the top of the apples. Brush the dough with the egg wash.
  • Bake the tart in the oven until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy, 45 to 50 minutes.

APPLE BROWN BUTTER TART RECIPE - (4.4/5)

Apple Brown Butter Tart Recipe - (4.4/5) image

Provided by Foodiewife

Number Of Ingredients 22

Pastry Crust:
1 1/2 sticks cold unsalted butter, cut into pea-size pieces
1 cup flour
Pinch kosher salt
1/4 cup ice water
Filling:
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
3 eggs
1 vanilla bean*, split and insides scraped
Apples:
2 tablespoons butter
6 Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1/8ths
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup brandy
1/2 cup golden raisins
OPTIONAL: 1 Tbsp. Boiled Cider (purchased from King Arthur Flour)
Flour, for dusting
1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water
Special Equipment: 9-inch tart pan
NOTE: I used 1 Tablespoon of vanilla bean paste

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. For the crust: Combine the butter, flour, and salt in a food processor. NOTE: I made the crust a day ahead. For the filling: In a small saucepan, melt the butter and cook it until it starts to brown and begins to smell like hazelnuts (about 7-10 minutes.) Transfer the butter to the bowl of a stand mixer equipped with a paddle. Add the sugar and beat together on medium speed. Gradually add the flour. Once the flour has combined, add the eggs one at a time. Beat in the vanilla bean seeds. For the apples: In a large saute pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the apples and sugar and cook until the apples start to soften, 6 to7 minutes. Pull the pan off the burner and add in the brandy. Return to the fire and flambe, if desired, or just let the alcohol burn off. Toss in the raisins. To assemble: Remove the dough from the fridge 15 minutes before ready to use, this will allow the dough to soften and come to room temperature. Dust a clean work surface with flour. Roll the dough out 1/8-inch thick and lay it in the tart pan with lots of overhang on the sides. Schmear half* the filling into the bottom of the tart pan and top with the apple mixture**. Fold the extra dough over the top of the apples. *NOTE: I found used almost all of the filling into my 9" tart pan, and I had no problem with it. **NOTE: I used a slotted spoon, when removing the apple filling, to avoid having any excess moisture. It worked perfectly. Brush the dough with the egg wash. OPTIONAL: Add some sanding sugar, for a lovely crunchy texture. Bake the tart in the oven until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy, 45 to 50 minutes. Food Network Note: This filling is enough for 2 tarts. It's easier to make a larger quantity and it lasts in the fridge for a few days. My comment: I disagree. I used almost all of the filling, and all of the apples!

BROWNED BUTTER APPLE TART

Browned Butter Apple Tart image

Celebrate the season with this rich, nutty tart from Amber Wilson of For the Love of the South.

Provided by Reynolds Kitchens(R)

Categories     Trusted Brands: Recipes and Tips     Reynolds®

Time 2h

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ cup chilled unsalted butter, cut into cubes
½ cup cold water
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
½ cup ice cubes
Reynolds Wrap® Aluminum Foil
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
½ vanilla bean, split lengthwise and seeds scraped
2 medium apples, sliced 1/8-inch thick
1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten

Steps:

  • In a mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine flour and salt. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture. On low speed, combine until the mixture looks like coarse sand. Make sure there are no pieces of butter larger than the size of a pea, and do not over-blend.
  • In a small bowl, combine cold water, vinegar and ice. One tablespoon at a time, add the ice water mixture to the flour and butter, mixing between additions. Add the water until the dough comes together into a ball. The dough should be smooth, not sticky or crumbly. Shape into a disk. Wrap the disk in plastic wrap and keep in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or up to three days.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. In a small skillet over a low heat, add the butter slowly and melt until it is lightly brown and nutty. Take off the heat and add the scraped vanilla to the browned butter.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a 12x12-inch square. Place the crust on a rimmed baking sheet lined with Reynolds Wrap® Aluminum Foil.
  • Arrange the apple slices onto the prepared crust in rows, fanning slightly as you go. Make sure to leave a 1-inch border around the edges. Brush with the vanilla-infused browned butter. Sprinkle with the brown sugar. Fold up the edges of the tart over the sides of the apples, pressing down. Brush the sides of the tart with the egg wash. Refrigerate the tart for 30 minutes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes at 425 degrees F. Rotate, decrease the oven temperature to 375 degrees F and bake for another 30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown around the edges. Slice into 4 generous slices and serve.

Tips:

  • Use Granny Smith apples: They hold their shape well when baked and have a tart flavor that pairs well with the sweet brown butter and sugar.
  • Slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook evenly and become tender.
  • Don't overcook the apples: You want them to be tender but still hold their shape.
  • Use a good quality brown butter: It will add a rich, nutty flavor to the tart.
  • Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing will make the dough tough.
  • Chill the dough before rolling it out: This will make it easier to work with.
  • Bake the tart until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender: This will take about 45 minutes.
  • Let the tart cool completely before slicing it: This will help the filling set.

Conclusion:

This brown butter apple tart is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. The tart crust is flaky and buttery, the apples are tender and sweet, and the brown butter adds a rich, nutty flavor. Serve it with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream for a truly decadent treat.
