Number Of Ingredients 5

(4) 3 ounce boxes Jello gelatin (, assorted colors)
4 cups boiling water
(2) .25 ounce envelopes unflavored gelatin
2 cups hot water
14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk

Steps:

  • Dissolve each box of jello into its own individual container, using 1 cup of boiling water per flavor (no more than 1-inch deep.) Chill until solid, about 3 hours or overnight.
  • Once solid, cut each of the different flavors into small square cubes.
  • Using a 9×13 glass dish, gently mix the cubes together in an even layer (being very careful not to break or tear them.)
  • In a medium-sized bowl, dissolve 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin in 2 cups of hot water. Let the hot mixture cool slightly and then whisk in the sweetened condensed milk.
  • Let mixture cool to the touch (If it's too warm, it could melt the Jello cubes.) Then evenly pour the mixture over the cubes of Jello.
  • Chill in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Cut into squares and serve.

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (don't get evaporated milk)
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin (that Knox stuff)
4 small boxes (3-ounce) of Jell-O or store brand "gelatin dessert" in different colors

Steps:

  • For each flavor, dissolve one box of jello in one cup of boiling water. Pour into a container and chill (overnight is probably best, but I chilled it 3 hours until firm). After chilling the four flavors, cut them into small blocks. Carefully mix the blocks in a 9 x 13 pan. In a separate bowl, sprinkle 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin into 1/2 cup cold water. After the gelatin blooms, add 1 1/2 cup boiling water and dissolve. Add the can of condensed milk. Stir and cool. Pour cooled milk mixture over jello and chill overnight. Cut into blocks or shapes and serve!

Tips:

  • Choose the right gelatin. Powdered gelatin is the best choice for this recipe, as it is more stable and will not clump as easily as granulated gelatin.
  • Bloom the gelatin properly. This means sprinkling the gelatin over cold water and letting it sit for 5 minutes, or until the gelatin has softened and absorbed the water.
  • Use fresh fruit. Fresh fruit will give your jelly a brighter flavor and color.
  • Don't overcook the fruit. Overcooked fruit will lose its flavor and texture.
  • Add the gelatin to the fruit mixture slowly, while stirring constantly. This will help to prevent the gelatin from clumping.
  • Pour the gelatin mixture into a mold and refrigerate until set. This will usually take about 4 hours, or overnight.
  • To serve, unmold the jelly and cut it into slices. You can also garnish it with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or ice cream.

Conclusion:

Broken Glass Jelly is a beautiful and delicious dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your own liking. With a few simple tips, you can make perfect Broken Glass Jelly every time.
