Yield ½ pear 4

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 pears
2 teaspoons margarine
4 teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg

Steps:

  • Slice pears in half lengthwise and scoop out core and seeds with small melon baller. Place pears on a baking sheet, cut side up. Spoon ½ teaspoon of margarine in middle of each pear. Sprinkle brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg over pears. Place oven rack at top setting. Cook pears under the broiler until butter melts, about 5 minutes. Optional: Serve with vanilla ice cream.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe but firm pears for broiling. Overripe pears will become too soft and mushy.
  • Use a variety of pears for different flavors and textures. Some good options include Bartlett, Anjou, Bosc, and Comice.
  • Peel the pears if desired. Peeling is not necessary, but it will give the pears a more refined appearance.
  • Cut the pears in half lengthwise and remove the cores. You can also cut the pears into wedges or slices.
  • Brush the pears with melted butter or olive oil. This will help them to brown and caramelize.
  • Sprinkle the pears with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, or other spices. You can also add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.
  • Broil the pears for 10-15 minutes, or until they are tender and slightly browned.
  • Serve the pears warm or at room temperature. They can be eaten on their own or topped with yogurt, ice cream, or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Broiled pears are a simple and delicious dessert that can be enjoyed all year round. With their caramelized exterior and tender, juicy interior, they are sure to please everyone at your table. Experiment with different varieties of pears and toppings to find your favorite combination.
