BROCCOLI HAM RING

Since this sandwich ring uses convenient crescent rolls, it takes little fuss to prepare. I like to fix it for a Sunday evening meal when our son comes to visit. It makes a great appetizer for a party, too. -Janet Dishong, Manheim, Pennsylvania

HAM BROCCOLI SWISS RING-A-ROUND

Ham Broccoli Swiss Ring-A-Round image

I've been making this for years. It is an old Pillsbury Cookoff recipe from the 60's. I don't remember all the exact measurements but will post what works for me. We had it for dinner tonight. I like serving it with chilled canned mixed fruit.

Categories     Other Main Dishes

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/2 c ham, diced
1 - 8 oz pkg. swiss cheese, diced
1 - 10 oz pkg. frozen broccoli, thawed (i used fresh broccoli, and steamed until tendercrisp)
3/4 c prepared mustard
1 pkg refrigerated crescent rolls

Steps:

  • 1. If using fresh broccoli, steam or cook until tendercrisp.
  • 2. Dice swiss cheese and ham into bite size pieces.
  • 3. In large bowl or pan, add ham, swiss cheese and broccoli, mix until throughly combined.
  • 4. Add mustard and mix until all ingredients are coated with mustard.
  • 5. On round pizza pan lay crescent rolls out in sun burst pattern. I used a large pizza pan and lined with parchment paper.
  • 6. Spoon broccoli cheese mixture all around the base (center) portion of the crescent rolls.
  • 7. Pull points of roll dough up and over broccoli mixture.
  • 8. Bake at 475 until cheese is melted, mixture is hot and bubbly and crescents are golden.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh broccoli: Look for broccoli with bright green florets and firm stalks. Avoid broccoli with yellowing or wilted florets.
  • Cook the broccoli properly: Broccoli should be cooked until tender-crisp, but not mushy. Overcooked broccoli will lose its nutrients and flavor.
  • Use high-quality ham: The quality of the ham will greatly affect the flavor of the dish. Choose a ham that is well-seasoned and has a good smoky flavor.
  • Don't overmix the filling: Overmixing the filling will make it tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Bake the ring until golden brown: The ring should be baked until it is golden brown and the filling is cooked through. This will take about 45 minutes.

Conclusion:

Broccoli ham ring is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion. It is a great way to use up leftover broccoli and ham, and it is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. Try it out tonight and see for yourself how delicious it is!
