Tips:
- Choose the right bread: Stale or day-old bread works best for strata because it absorbs the egg mixture better and doesn't get soggy. You can use any type of bread you like, but a hearty bread like sourdough or French bread will give the strata a nice texture.
- Don't overmix the egg mixture: Overmixing the egg mixture can make the strata tough. Just whisk the eggs, milk, and seasonings together until they are well combined.
- Layer the strata evenly: When layering the strata, make sure to distribute the bread, ham, cheese, and broccoli evenly throughout the dish. This will ensure that every bite has a little bit of everything.
- Bake the strata until it is golden brown: The strata is done baking when it is golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Depending on your oven, this can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.
- Let the strata rest before serving: Once the strata is done baking, let it rest for 10-15 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the strata to set.
