Time 1h

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 pound ground beef
1 (9 ounce) package frozen cut broccoli, thawed and drained
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup chopped onion
½ cup sour cream
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent rolls
1 egg, beaten

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Cook and stir ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned and crumbly, about 10 minutes; drain excess grease.
  • Stir broccoli, mozzarella cheese, onion, sour cream, salt, and black pepper into ground beef. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Divide each package of crescent rolls in half to make 4 squares; press perforations to seal each piece into a solid sheet of dough. Place dough squares onto an ungreased baking sheet and gently form each piece into a rectangle. Spoon 1/4 of meat mixture into the center of each rectangle, bring 2 opposite long edges together in the center, and overlap. Pinch edges of dough to seal into filled packets. Brush with beaten egg.
  • Bake until packets are deep golden brown and the filling is hot, 18 to 22 minutes.

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all of your ingredients and equipment ready. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling.
  • Tenderize the Beef: To ensure the beef is tender and juicy, use a meat mallet to pound it thin. You can also marinate the beef in a mixture of soy sauce, rice wine, and garlic for added flavor.
  • Use Fresh Broccoli: Fresh broccoli florets will give your dish the best flavor and texture. Avoid using frozen or canned broccoli, as they can be mushy.
  • Don't Overcook the Beef: Beef Wellington is a delicate dish, so it's important not to overcook the beef. Cook it until it reaches an internal temperature of 135°F (57°C) for medium-rare or 145°F (63°C) for medium.
  • Use a Good Quality Puff Pastry: The puff pastry is an important part of Beef Wellington, so make sure you use a good quality one. Look for a puff pastry that is made with high-quality butter and has a light, flaky texture.
  • Chill the Beef Wellington Before Baking: After you have assembled the Beef Wellington, chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will help the puff pastry to rise and create a golden brown crust.
  • Serve with a Sauce: Beef Wellington is traditionally served with a red wine sauce or a béarnaise sauce. You can also serve it with a simple gravy or your favorite dipping sauce.

Conclusion:

Beef Wellington is a classic dish that is sure to impress your guests. It may seem like a difficult dish to make, but it is actually quite simple if you follow the steps carefully. With a little planning and preparation, you can create a delicious and memorable Beef Wellington that everyone will love.
