Yield Makes 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 Bunch Fresh Broccoli, Broken into Flowerettes
1/2 Cup Red Onion
1 Cup Celery, chopped
1 Pound Bacon; Fried Crisp, Drained, Crumbled
1/2 Hulled Sunflower Seeds
1/2 Cup Raisins
DRESSING:
3/4 Cup Mayonnaise
1/4 Cup Sugar
2 Tablespoons White Vinegar

Steps:

  • Combine salad ingredients together in large bowl. Combine dressing ingredients together thoroughly. Pour dressing over salad ingredients and stir to blend. Serve chilled.

Tips:

  • Choose the right broccoli: Look for broccoli crowns that are deep green in color and have tightly closed florets. Avoid crowns with yellowing or wilted florets.
  • Cut the broccoli into bite-sized pieces: This will help the broccoli cook evenly and make it easier to eat.
  • Blanch the broccoli: Blanching the broccoli will help to preserve its color and nutrients. To blanch the broccoli, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the broccoli is bright green and tender. Immediately remove the broccoli from the boiling water and place it in a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Cook the bacon until it is crispy: This will add flavor and texture to the salad.
  • Use a variety of raisins: Different types of raisins will add different flavors and textures to the salad. For example, golden raisins are sweeter than black raisins, and jumbo raisins are chewier than regular raisins.
  • Make the dressing ahead of time: This will allow the flavors to meld together. You can make the dressing up to 2 days in advance and store it in the refrigerator.
  • Toss the salad just before serving: This will help to prevent the broccoli from getting soggy.

Conclusion:

Broccoli Bacon Raisin Salad is a delicious and easy-to-make salad that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to get your daily dose of vegetables, and it is also a good source of protein and fiber. The combination of broccoli, bacon, raisins, and dressing is simply irresistible.
