BRIGHT, LIGHT BUTTERMILK SYRUP

Bright, Light Buttermilk Syrup image

This is a slightly lightened version of our favorite buttermilk syrup. The sugar and butter are a little less than the original recipe, but it tastes as wonderful as ever! We like it on pancakes, french toast and waffles.

Categories     Breakfast

Time 9m

Yield 2 cups, 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3/4-1 cup sugar
1 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla

Steps:

  • Place first five ingredients in a large saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil and cook for 7 minutes (mixture will foam), stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Serve warm on pancakes, waffles or french toast.

Tips:

  • Use fresh buttermilk: Fresh buttermilk will give your syrup a better flavor and texture. If you don't have fresh buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of regular milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan: A heavy-bottomed saucepan will help to prevent the syrup from burning. If you don't have a heavy-bottomed saucepan, you can use a regular saucepan, but be sure to stir the syrup constantly.
  • Cook the syrup over medium heat: Cooking the syrup over medium heat will help to prevent it from scorching. If you cook the syrup over too high of heat, it will be more likely to burn.
  • Stir the syrup constantly: Stirring the syrup constantly will help to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan and burning. You should also stir the syrup to prevent it from crystallizing.
  • Let the syrup cool completely before using: The syrup will thicken as it cools, so be sure to let it cool completely before using it. If you use the syrup while it is still hot, it will be too thin.

Conclusion:

Bright Light Buttermilk Syrup is a delicious and versatile syrup that can be used on a variety of foods. It is easy to make and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Whether you are using it on pancakes, waffles, or french toast, Bright Light Buttermilk Syrup is sure to please everyone at the table.
